This Program can be administered either before or after a failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS4967" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "T" as the SIMS Description Code. If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

Certain 3500 with EUI option and 3500B Marine Propulsion Engines may have a number of problems caused by the ECM Personality Modules (flash files). New personality modules have been released to correct these issues. It is recommended that all engines be updated with the new personality modules. However, it is not required if the engine is not affected by any of the issues corrected in the new software. Refer to the flash file cross reference for a specific list of improvements made to the software.
Some of the engines covered in this service letter may also be covered by Service Letter PI1395 (SEBE6700), dated December 1, 1998. The August 1999 revision of PI1395 contains the same FLASH files as this service letter. If an engine is covered by PI1395, but the work has not yet been completed, PI1395 should be performed instead of this service letter. If an earlier revision of PI1395 with older FLASH files has already been completed, this service letter may also be performed so that the engine is updated to the latest FLASH file.
Many of the marine propulsion software improvements are in the process of being added to generator engine and marine auxiliary engine software. A service letter covering these engines is expected when the FLASH files are completed. Refer to the FIND system for the latest software information.

Obtain this software from the Caterpillar Mailbox System, the SIS Web System, or the SIS FLASH FILES CD. The SIS FLASH FILES CD may take up to two months to receive the most up to date files. The mailbox and SIS Web systems always have the latest software. If you are not set up to use the mailbox call 1-800-HELP EDI or 309-735-4334 from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM Central (Peoria) Time for assistance. Be prepared to leave your name, mailing address, dealer code, and phone number. A PC, error correcting modem, and HyperAccess 5 for Dos form number LERQ3133 are required to use the mailbox system. The time required to receive access to the mailbox system can vary widely depending on the workload of the administrators. Be sure to request access to this system well before you need it.
