V-belts (2) are under tension from spring (1). If wrench slips while releasing the belt tension, personal injury may result. Be sure wrench is properly engaged with the belt tightener.
1. Using Tooling (A) release the tension on spring (1) and remove V-belts (2) from tightener arm assembly pulley (3). 2. Loosen two nuts (4) from clutch and refrigerant compressor block (5). 3. Loosen two bolts (7) from bracket (8). Push clutch and refrigerant compressor (6) towards the engine to release tension on V-belt (9). 4. Loosen two nuts (11) from alternator block (10). 5. Loosen two bolts (13) from bracket (14). Push alternator (12) towards the engine to release tension on V-belt (15).
Care must be taken when removing the crankshaft pulleys. They are two separate components and personnel injury could occur if the crankshaft pulleys are dropped. Use two 1/2 in. × 13 × 4 in. Guide Bolts to slide the crankshaft pulleys off the crankshaft.
6. Remove two of four bolts (17), and the washers. Install the two guide bolts (not shown). Remove the remaining two bolts (17) and the washers. Slide crankshaft pulley (18) on the guide bolts (not shown), off damper (16). 7. Remove V-belt (9) and V-belt (15) from crankshaft pulley (19). Slide crankshaft pulley (19) on the guide bolts (not shown), off damper (16). Remove the guide bolts (not shown). 8. Using two people remove eight bolts (20) and damper adapter (21) from the crankshaft. The weight of damper adapter (22) is 45 Kg (100 lb). The following steps are for the installation of the damper and crankshaft pulley.9. Make sure all components of the damper and crankshaft pulley are clean of dirt and foreign material prior to installation.10. Check all components for wear or damage and replace if necessary. 11. Using two people install damper adapter (21) and eight bolts (20) to the crankshaft. Tighten eight bolts (20) to a torque of 135 15 N m (99 11 lb ft). The weight of damper adapter (21) is 45 Kg (100 lb).

12. Install the guide bolts (not shown) to the crankshaft. Position crankshaft pulley (19) on the guide bolts (not shown). Slide crankshaft pulley (19) in position next to damper (16). Install V-belt (9) and V-belt (15) to crankshaft pulley (19). 13. Position crankshaft pulley (18) on the guide bolts (not shown). Slide crankshaft pulley (18) in position. Install two of four bolts (17), and the washers on damper (16). Remove the two guide bolts (not shown), and install the remaining two bolts (17) and the washers. 14. Pull alternator (12) away from the engine to apply tension on V-belt (15). Tighten two bolts (13) to bracket (14). 15. Turn the inside nut (11), counter-clockwise to apply tension on the V-belt. Tighten two nuts (11) to alternator block (10).16. Adjust the tension on the alternator V-belt. For complete details on alternator V-belt tension refer to the Operation & Maintenance Manual. Also see the Topic "Belt Tension Chart" in the 3408E & 3412E Engine Specifications module, SENR1017. 17. Push clutch and refrigerant compressor (6) away from the engine to apply tension on V-belt (9). Tighten two bolts (7) to bracket (8). 18. Turn the inside nut (4), counter-clockwise to apply tension on the V-belt. Tighten two nuts (4) to clutch and refrigerant compressor block (5).19. Adjust the tension on the clutch and refrigerant compressor V-belt. For complete details on clutch and refrigerant compressor V-belt tension refer to the Operation & Maintenance Manual. Also see the Topic "Belt Tension Chart" in the 3408E & 3412E Engine Specifications module, SENR1017.
