(5) The latest pumps and hoses require 151685 kPa (22000 psi)capacity.
(6) Optional
Lubricate the main bearing studs with clean engine oil. Use Tooling (H) and a suitable torque wrench to check the torque on the main bearing studs. Tighten the main bearing studs to a torque of 100 20 N m (74 15 lb ft).Note: Wipe parts clean before installation. If new bearings are kept in their box until installation, they should be clean. If the bearing is determined to be clean from the box, the bearing should be installed as it was found in the package and not cleaned. However, if the bearings have dust or dirt on the running surface (ID) on them from storage, the running surface should not be wiped clean. Wiping the bearing running surface could cause the dust or dirt to become embedded in the bearing surface. To clean bearing running surfaces, put them in a solvent tank. They can then be rinsed and blown dry. If the bearing has debris on the backside of the bearing, on the steel back, use a proper solvent, such as Brake Clean, and a lint free rag to clean the new bearing back. Apply a light film of clean oil to back of bearing surface using a clean rag and a generous amount of oil on the front of each bearing.
Use Tooling (E) to rotate the crankshaft and install the upper crankshaft main bearing, if necessary. Use Tooling (F) to install the upper crankshaft main bearing into the cylinder block. Install the upper crankshaft main bearing.
Illustration 1 g01212288
Install crankshaft main bearing (7) into crankshaft main bearing cap (6). Lift crankshaft main bearing cap (6) into position.
Illustration 2 g01212278
Lubricate bolts (5) with clean engine oil. Remove Tooling (G). Install bolts (5) finger tight.
Illustration 3 g01212274
Lubricate the main bearing studs with clean engine oil. Install plate (4). Install nuts (3) for the crankshaft main bearings finger tight.
Illustration 4 g01212278
Start at the front of the engine and tighten bolts (5) on the right side of the cylinder block to a torque of 100 20 N m (74 15 lb ft).
Illustration 5 g01212105Note: Show 14 to 15 threads or 28 to 30 mm of protrusion of the stud above the nut before tension is applied. Show 16 to 17 threads or 32 to 34 mm of protrusion of the stud above the nut after tension is applied.
Install Tooling (A) onto the studs for the crankshaft main bearing cap. Tighten the threaded collar of Tooling (A). Attach Tooling (B) onto Tooling (A). Attach Tooling (C) onto Tooling (D). Apply approximately 135 MPa (19580 psi) of pressure to Tooling (B). Use the drive on Tooling (A) to tighten the nuts for the crankshaft main bearings. Release the pressure on Tooling (A). Reapply approximately 135 MPa (19580 psi) of pressure to Tooling (A). Recheck nuts (3) for tightness. Remove Tooling (A).
