Information:

The Engine Monitoring System is not a guarantee against catastrophic failures. Programmed delays and derate schedules are designed to minimize false alarms and provide time for the operator to stop the engine.
Programmable features monitor the following conditions:
Coolant temperature
Oil pressure
Inlet manifold air temperature
Cooling system level (if equipped)Coolant Level Sensor (If Equipped)
Note: The coolant level sensor is an optional feature. The system can be programmed with one of the following options:"ENABLED" - The system will monitor the input from the coolant level sensor. The system is not enabled when the engine is shipped by Caterpillar."DISABLED" - The system will not monitor the input from the coolant level sensor.Note: Coolant Level sensors typically provide low coolant level and very low coolant level signals to the ECM.Programmable Options and Systems Operation
If the Warning/Derate/Shutdown mode has been selected and the warning indicator activates, bring the engine to a stop whenever possible. Depending on the application, special precautions should be taken to avoid personal injury.
The engine can be programmed to the following modes:
"OFF"
"Warning"
"Warning/Derate"
"Warning/Derate/Shutdown""Warning"
The "DIAGNOSTIC" lamp and the warning signal (red lamp or buzzer) turn "ON" and the warning signal is activated continuously. The "Warning" signal alerts the operator that one or more of the engine parameters is not within normal operating range."Warning/Derate"
The "DIAGNOSTIC" lamp turns "ON" and the warning signal (red lamp or buzzer) is activated. After the warning, the engine will derate rpm and power. The warning lamp will begin to flash when the derating occurs. When the engine is fully derated, the engine power is limited to 120 kW (160 hp). During a low oil pressure condition, the engine can be limited to 1350 rpm."Warning/Derate/Shutdown"
The "DIAGNOSTIC" lamp turns "ON" and the warning signal (red lamp or buzzer) is activated. After the warning, the engine will derate rpm and power. The engine will continue to derate rpm until a shutdown of the engine occurs. The engine can be restarted after a shutdown for use in an emergency.A shutdown of the engine may occur in as little as 20 seconds. The engine can be restarted after a shutdown for use in an emergency. However, the cause of the initial shutdown may still exist. The engine may shut down again in as little as 20 seconds.Coolant Level: When programmed to "Warning", the "Check Engine" lamp turns ON and the "Warning" lamp will turn ON for a low coolant level after 10 seconds. The same lamps will be ON if there is very low coolant level signal after 30 secondsWhen programmed to "Derate", the "Check Engine" lamp will be ON. There will be a 10 second delay when very low coolant is detected in order to verify the condition. The "Warning" lamp will flash and the engine will derate to 119 kW (160 hp) and limit vehicle speed to 72.5 km/h (45 mph). When programmed to shutdown, the system will derate and shut down the engine after 30 seconds.Oil Pressure: When monitoring is programmed to "Warning". The "Check Engine" Lamp and the "Warning" lamp will illuminate when the low oil pressure has been detected for 4 seconds. When low oil pressure has been detected for 8 seconds, the "Check Engine" lamp and the "Warning" lamp will be turned "ON".When programmed to "Derate". The "Check Engine" lamp and the "Warning" lamp will turn "ON"when the low oil pressure has been detected for 4 seconds. When low oil pressure has been detected for 8 seconds, the "Warning" lamp will flash and the engine will be "derated".When programmed to "Shut Down". The "Check Engine" lamp and the "Warning" lamp will turn "ON" when the low oil pressure has been detected for 4 seconds. When low oil pressure has been detected for 8 seconds, the "Warning" lamp will flash during engine derate. The engine will shut down after 30 seconds as well.Coolant Temperature: The monitoring system has "Warning", "Derate", & "Shutdown" strategies for abnormally high coolant temperatures. The High Coolant temperature" trip point is 107° C (225° F). The Very High Coolant temperature" trip point is 111° C (232° F).When programmed to Warning, the "Check Engine" lamp and the "Warning" lamp will turn "ON" at the High Coolant temperature trip point. When programmed to Derate, the "Check Engine" lamp and the "Warning" lamp will turn "ON" at the High Coolant temperature trip point. The "Warning" lamp will flash at the Very High Coolant temperature trip point and the engine power will be derated 25%. The engine will be derated an additional 25% for each Degree C above the initial diagnostic code trip level. At 100% derate, the engine is derated to 160 horse power and 45 mph in vehicle speed. When programmed to Shut down, the "Check Engine" lamp and the "Warning" lamp will turn "ON" at the High Coolant temperature trip point. The "Warning" lamp will flash at the Very High Coolant temperature trip point and the engine power will be derated. After approximately 25 seconds the engine will be shut down.Note: When programmed to "Shutdown".The engine will shut down approximately 25 seconds after the engine has exceeded the diagnostic trip point for Very High Coolant temperature. Total engine power derate may not occur before shutdown.Inlet Manifold Air Inlet Temperature
Intake manifold air temperature is monitored to warn the operator of excessive intake manifold air temperature. Excessive intake manifold air temperatures will not cause the ECM to derate or shutdown the engine when Engine Monitoring is programmed to "Derate" or "Shutdown".Intake manifold air temperature must exceed the triggering temperatures for 30 seconds while the engine is running and the engine coolant temperature is above 99° C (210° F) before a Diagnostic Code is generated and logged. A High Intake Manifold Air temperature "Warning" diagnostic code is triggered at 90° C (194° F), and a Very High Intake Manifold Air temperature at 110° C (230° F). In addition to the "Check Engine" lamp, the "Warning" lamp is also turned "ON".Smart Idle Parameter
Battery Monitor and Engine Control Voltage. The battery monitor and engine control voltage parameter is used to determine the voltage trip point. If the
