1. Remove cover (1) and the solenoid.2. Remove plate (2).3. Remove cover (3). 4. Remove the bolts and locks from levers (4) and (8). Remove both levers, the spacer and shaft (7).5. Remove low idle screw (5) and high idle screw (6). Remove the O-ring seals from the screws. 6. Remove bolt (9). Remove cover assembly (10). 7. Remove strainer assembly (11). 8. Use tooling (A) to remove seal (12) and the bearing.9. Remove seal (13) and bearing (14). 10. Remove the screw from rack stop collar (15). Remove the rack stop collar and the spring.11. Remove governor torque spring (16).
EARLIER GOVERNOR SHOWN12. Remove O-ring seal (18).
LATER GOVERNOR SHOWN13. Remove screws (17) and (19). Make a separation of the housings. 14. Remove bolt (22) and the lock.15. Remove lever and shaft (20) and lever assembly (21) from the housing. Use a piece of 3/8 in. (9.53 mm) rod with a notch in it to hold spring (23) to remove pin (25).16. Remove pin (25), spring (23) and plunger (24). 17. Remove plug (28), spring (27) and plunger (26). 18. Remove seal (30) and the bearing.19. Remove the plug and bearing (not shown) from the other side of the housing.20. Remove guide (29) from the housing. 21. Remove seat (32), the washer, the spacer and spring (31) from the weight assembly.

Remove yoke (57) and springs (58) from gear (56). 38. Remove bolt (60) and the lock. Remove cover (61). 39. Remove gear (62). Remove shaft (64) and gear (63) from the housing. Use a press to remove the gear from the shaft. 40. Remove bearing (65) from the housing. 41. Remove valve assembly (66) from the housing. Remove pin (67). Remove the piston and the spring from the valve body.Assemble Governor
1. Clean and inspect all parts. Make a replacement of all parts that are worn or damaged. Put clean engine oil on the O-ring seals.2. Put the spring and the piston in position in the valve body. Install the pin. The pin must not extend beyond the sides of the valve body. Install the gasket and the valve assembly in the housing. Tighten the valve assembly to a torque of 50 10 lb.ft. (70 14 N m).3. Use a press and tooling (A) to install bearing (1) in the housing. The top of bearing (1) must be .470 .005 in. (11.94 0.13 mm) above surface (X) of the housing. 4. Install gear (2) on the bearing.5. Use a press to install gear (3) on the shaft. Install the shaft and gear in the housing. 6. Put cover (4) in position. Install the lock and bolt to hold it in position. 7. Use pins to install yoke (5) and gear (7) on springs (6).8. Put the gear assembly in position in shaft (8). Put a dowel through the holes in retainer (9), shaft (8) and gear (7). Install the retainer ring to hold the dowel in position. 9. Install pinion (10). Install the ring (not shown) to hold the pinion in position. 10. Install O-ring seal (11) on the sleeve.11. Install the sleeve on piston (12).12. Install the piston in cylinder (13). 13. Install valve (15) in the piston.14. Install cylinder (13) in weight assembly (16). Install lockring (14) to hold the weight assembly in position. 15. Install races (18) and bearing (17) on sleeve (22). Instal retainer ring (21) on the sleeve to hold the bearing and the races in position.16. Put bolt (24), washer (23), spring (19), washer (23) and sleeve (22) in position in seat (20).17. Put seat (20) in position on the weight assembly. 18. Make sure the holes in valve (15), the sleeve and seat (20) are in alignment. Install dowel (25).
EARLIER GOVERNOR SHOWN19. Install ring (27) on seat (20). The inside diameter of spring (28) must be in position against seat (20).
LATER GOVERNOR SHOWN20. Install spring (28) on the bolt. On later governors, pin assembly (26) is a solid pin.21. Install pin assembly (26) on the piston. 22. Install the weight assembly unit on the cover. Install lock (29) and the bolts.
EARLIER GOVERNOR SHOWN23. Install lever (31) and pin (30).
LATER GOVERNOR SHOWN 24. Install plunger (32), spring (33), the gasket and plug (34). Tighten the plug to a torque of 27 5 lb.ft. (38 7 N m). 25. Install guide (35) in the housing and make a 30° chamfer of the end of the guide against the housing. Use a piece of 3/8 in. (9.53 mm) rod with a notch in it to hold spring (36) in position.26. Install plunger (37), spring (36) and pin (38) in lever assembly (39). 27. Install bearings (40) in each side of the housing with tooling (A). Install lever assembly (39) and the shaft into the housing. With lever assembly (39) pushed against the bearing
