start by:a) remove fuel injection lines1. Turn the crankshaft to top center compression position for No. 1 piston. See LOCATING TOP CENTER COMPRESSION POSITION FOR NO. 1 PISTON in TESTING AND ADJUSTING.2. Drain the fuel filter housing. 3. On marine engines only, drain the jacket water coolant, remove turbocharger heat shield water outlet lines (1), oil lines (2) and water line (3).4. Remove oil line (4). 5. Remove the cover over the variable timing unit. Bend lock (6) away from the bolts in the variable timing unit.6. Remove the bolts, lock and retainer (5). 7. Remove gear (7) from the variable timing unit. 8. Disconnect governor linkage (8) from the governor.9. On industrial engines only, disconnect safety shutoff control cable (9) from the lever. Remove bolt (10) that holds the cable bracket and cable to the governor control channel.10. Remove bolts (12), governor control channel (11) and spacers (13) from the aftercooler housings. 11. Remove bolts (14) that hold the bracket on the governor to the aftercooler housing. 12. Remove air line (15). 13. Remove brace (16).14. Remove two bolts (17) from the bracket on the governor.15. Disconnect oil line (18) from the safety control shutoff.16. Disconnect fuel line (19) from the adapter.17. Disconnect fuel line (19) from the fuel filter housing and remove clip (20). Remove fuel line (19). 18. Remove bolts (21) that hold the oil line in place.19. Remove bracket (22). 20. Remove bolts (23) from the brackets. Make a note of the location of the two ground body bolts (24) when they are removed so they can be installed in their original position.21. Remove seven bolts (24) and two brackets (25). 22. Fasten tooling (A) and a hoist to the fuel injection pump housing.23. Move the fuel injection pump housing and governor assembly forward until the O-ring seals at the rear of the pump are clear of the cylinder block. Remove the fuel injection pump housing and governor as a unit. Weight is approximately 260 lb. (117 kg). Install Fuel Pump Housing And Governor
1. Be sure the timing pin is installed in the camshaft in the fuel injection pump housing. Fasten tooling (A) and a hoist to the fuel injection pump housing and governor.2. Put 1P808 General Purpose Lubricant on the O-ring seal on the fuel injection pump housing. Put the fuel injection pump housing and governor in position on the engine. Move the assembly toward the rear of the engine. Make sure the O-ring seal makes a seal in the cylinder block and is not damaged.3. Remove the hoist and tooling (A). Install the bolts in the holes where tooling (A) was fastened. 4. Put brackets (2) in position on the pump housing as shown. Install the body ground bolts in their original position and tighten to a torque of 85 5 lb.ft. (115 7 N m). Install the remainder of bolts (3) and tighten to a torque of 75 10 lb.ft. (100 14 N m).5. Put bracket (1) in position as shown and install the bolts that hold it in place. 6. Put bracket (4) in position as shown and install the bolts that hold it in place. 7. Put fuel line (5) in position and install clip (6). Connect the fuel line to the fuel filter housing.8. Connect the other end of fuel line (5) to the adapter as shown. 9. Install bolts (7) that hold the oil line in place.10. Connect oil line (8) to fitting (9) on the safety control shutoff. 11. Install brace (10).12. Install two bolts (11) in the bracket on the governor. 13. Install bolts (12) that hold the bracket on the governor to the aftercooler housing.14. Install air line (13).15. Put spacers (16), governor control channel (15) and, on industrial engines only, safety shutoff control cable clip (14) in position and install the bolts that hold them in place. 16. Install the bolts that hold cable bracket (17) in place and connect the safety shutoff control cable to lever (18). 17. Connect governor linkage (19) to the governor. 18. Put gear (20) in position on the variable timing unit.19. Put retainer (21) in position. 20. Install lock (22) and the bolts. Do not tighten the bolts. 21. Turn the crankshaft to top center compression position for No. 1 piston. See LOCATING TOP CENTER COMPRESSION POSITION FOR NO. 1 PISTON in TESTING AND ADJUSTING.22. Tighten the bolts that hold retainer (21) in position to a torque of 10 lb.ft. (14 N m). Remove the timing pin from the camshaft in the fuel injection pump housing. Gradually tighten the bolts in retainer (21) to a torque of 75 10 lb.ft. (100 14 N m).23. Turn the flywheel two complete revolutions counterclockwise (as seen from the flywheel end). With the TC1-11 mark on the flywheel in alignment with the pointer in the flywheel housing, install the timing pin in the camshaft in the fuel injection pump. If the timing pin can not be installed, the timing is not correct and the timing procedure must be done again. For a more complete timing procedure, see CHECKING FUEL INJECTION PUMP TIMING ON ENGINE in TESTING AND ADJUSTING. 24. Install plug (23) in the governor.25. Install the cover over the variable timing unit. 26. Install oil line (27).27. On marine engines only, install water line (26), oil lines (25) and turbocharger heat shield water outlet lines (24). Fill the jacket water cooling system.end by:a) install fuel injection lines
