Start By:a. install body retaining pins Fluid Spillage ContainmentCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot water or steam. Any contact can cause severe burns. Look at the sight gauge to check the coolant level. The coolant level should be in the green range. If necessary, remove the fill cap only after the engine has been stopped and the cap is cool enough to remove with your bare hand. Remove the cooling system fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system condition contains alkali that can cause personal injury. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes and do not drink. Allow cooling system components to cool before draining.
1. Drain the coolant from the engine cooling system in a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the engine cooling system is 221 liters (58.5 U.S. gal).

Remove elbow (2) from the auxiliary water pump. Remove the O-ring seal from the auxiliary water pump.5. Disconnect hose assembly (7) from the auxiliary water pump. Cap and plug all openings immediately. 6. Install Tooling (A) on auxiliary water pump (9). Attach Tooling (A) to a suitable lifting device. Remove six bolts (10) and the washers. Remove auxiliary water pump (9). The weight of auxiliary water pump (9) is approximately 32 kg (70 lb). 7. If bearing (11) must be replaced, remove the air compressor. Refer to the topic "Remove Air Compressor" in this module for further information.8. Remove two bolts (12). Remove adapter (13) and the O-ring seal. Using Tooling (B), remove bearing (11) from adapter (13). The following steps are for the installation of the auxiliary water pump.9. Clean all mating surfaces and, replace all gaskets prior to installation. Check all O-ring seals for wear or damage, and replace if necessary. 10. If bearing (11) was removed, align the hole in the bearing with the oil hole in adapter (13). Using Tooling (B), install the bearing until it is 1.5 0.5 mm (.06 .02 in) below the rear surface of adapter (13). After installation, the inside diameter of bearing (11)
