This guideline applies to the inspection of a used trunnion to determine if the trunnion can be used again. A used trunnion must be inspected for rubber cracking. The current recommendation states that the trunnion should be replaced at the third major overhaul. This guideline is a general recommendation and the trunnion can be used again after the third overhaul in many cases. At each rebuild, several recommendations can be followed to determine the specifications for "USE AGAIN" or "DO NOT USE AGAIN". If these specifications are met, the trunnion can be used again.Trunnions that meet the specifications found in this Guideline and other applicable guidelines can be expected to give normal performance until the next overhaul, when used again in the same application. Never use a trunnion that this Guideline indicates should not be used again. Before installing a used or reconditioned part, correct any condition that may have caused the original wear.Service Letters and Technical Information Bulletins
The most recent Service Letters and Technical Information Bulletins that are related to this component shall be reviewed before beginning work. Often Service Letters and Technical Information Bulletins contain upgrades in repair procedures, parts, and safety information that pertain to the parts or components being repaired.

Once the trunnion assembly has been removed, the trunnion should be visually inspected. The following photographs are examples of trunnion mount assemblies that can and cannot be used again.Inspect the rubber in the mount assembly for deterioration. Also check the bonding between the rubber and the inner ring. If the trunnion is to be used again, the rubber must be pliable. If the rubber is hard and dry with severe cracks, the mount assembly should not be used again. The following photographs will help determine if a trunnion can be used again.
