2. Remove the sensing line (1) for fuel ratio control.3. Disconnect control linkage (2) for governor.4. Remove bracket (3) from governor housing.5. Remove the two bolts (4) from front of the governor housing. Loosen the two bolts in rear of governor housing. The two bolts in the rear of governor housing must be removed with the housing.6. Remove the governor housing from the fuel injection pump housing.Install Governor
1. Put the governor housing (1) in position on the fuel injection pump housing with the fuel rack lever engaged in the fuel rack. 2. Remove plug (2) and install rod (4) from tooling (A). Push rod in until speed limiter plunger will permit full movement of the governor. Tighten plug to hold rod in this position.3. Remove the plug from the cover on the side of the fuel injection pump housing and install tooling (A).4. Move the governor control lever (3) while pulling up on the rack stop collar. Do this several times and watch the dial indicator to see if the rack is moving correctly. If the rack does not move correctly, the fuel rack lever is not engaged in the rack. Remove the governor housing and check the position of the fuel rack lever and install again.5. Install bolts in governor housing and bracket.6. start by: a) remove governorb) remove fuel ratio control1. Remove the cover for the high and low idle screws. Remove the cover plates from top of housing. 2. Remove bolts (1) and locks from levers. Remove the two levers and shaft (5).3. Remove screw (6) from rack stop collar. Remove the rack stop collar (7) and spring. Remove the high and low idle screws (2). Remove bolt (3), cover (4) and strainer (11) which is between the cover and housing. 4. Remove speed limiter plug (8), spring (9) and plunger (10). 5. Remove two screws (12) from governor housing. 6. Remove the upper housing (21). seat (16), spring (20), washer spring (15) from lower housing (18).7. Remove pin (13) and rack lever (17). Remove bolts (14) that hold the cylinder to lower housing.8. Remove weights (19), piston, cylinder and control shaft as a unit.9. Remove control shaft from the piston. 10. Remove ring (22) and pin (23) from seat. 11. Remove washers (26), spring (27) and bolt (25) from seat (24). 12. Remove sleeve (28) and bearing assembly from valve (31).13. Push valve (31) in and remove from the piston.14. Remove ring (29) and weight assembly (32) from cylinder (30). 15. Remove ring (34) from sleeve (28).16. Remove bearing (33) and races (35) from sleeve. 17. Remove sleeve (37) and piston (36) from cylinder (30).18. Remove O-ring seal (38) from sleeve. 19. Remove ring (39) and gear (43) from the lower housing.20. Remove relief valve (44) for the governor oil pump.21. Remove the pin, slug and spring from the relief valve.22. Remove ring (42) and pin (40) from retainer. 23. Remove gear (41), retainer (47), springs (48) and yoke (46) from shaft (50). 24. Remove bolts (45) and cover (52) from pump.25. Remove shaft (50) and gear from the housing.26. Remove gear from shaft with a press.27. Remove gear (49) and bearing (51) from housing. 28. Remove bolt (53) and lock from levers.29. Remove shaft (54) and levers (55) from housing.30. Remove seal and bearings from housing for shaft. 31. Remove pin (58), spring (56) and detent plunger (57) from levers. A piece of pipe with a notch in each side can be used to hold spring (56) in to removing pin (58).Assemble Governor
1. Install detent plunger, spring and pin in levers (2).2. Install bearings (1) in each side of the governor housing with tooling (A). Install levers (2) and shaft into the governor housing. With levers (2) pushed against the bearing on the boss side, clearance between the guide for the governor spring and levers (2), measured on boss side with a thickness gauge (3), must be approximately .135 in. (3.43 mm). With levers (2) pushed against the bearing on the other side, clearance between the guide for the governor spring and levers (2), measured opposite boss side, must be approximately .100 in. (2.54 mm). If measurements are not correct, remove control levers and shaft and move bearings as necessary to get correct measurements. 3. Remove the shaft and levers and install seal and plug with tooling (B). The lip of the seal must be toward the inside when installed.4. Install the levers and shaft. Install the bolt and lock in levers. 5. Install spring (5), slug (4) and pin in the relief valve (6) for the governor oil pump.6. Install the relief valve (6) in the housing. 7. Install the bearing in the housing with tooling (C) and a press.
The guard has been removed from the press for better illustrations.
8. Install gear (8) on shaft (10) with a press. Install shaft and gear in housing. Install gear (9) over bearing (7) in housing. 9. Install pump cover (15), bolts and lock.10. Install yoke, springs, retainer (14), gear (13), pin and ring (11).11. Install gear (12) and ring (16) on bottom of housing. 12. Install O-ring seal on the sleeve. Install the sleeve on piston (19). Install the piston and sleeve in cylinder (20).13. Install cylinder (20) in the weight assembly (17). Install ring (18) to hold the weight assembly in place. 14. Install races (22) and bearing (24) on sleeve (21).15. Install ring (23) to hold the bearing and races in place on the sleeve. 16. Install valve (25) in piston and sleeve (21) on valve. 17. Install bolt (26), washers and spring in seat (27).18. Install seat (27) over sleeve (21). Install pin (29) and ring (28) to hold seat, sleeve and valve together.19. Install the control shaft on the piston.20. Install the control shaft, cylinder, piston and weights as a unit on the pump cover of the lower housing. Install
