Action Required
With the clutch at maximum operating temperature, remove the breather and bushing from the top of the bearing housing and check the temperature with a thermister probe. The probe must be long enough to reach the bottom of the hole. If the temperature is 200 deg.F or less, remove the existing instruction plate, transfer the data to the new plate and install the new instruction plate. Also, remove the breather from the top of the bearing housing and install a 3B8489 Fitting. Notify the operator that the lubrication interval has been changed to 1 shot of 2S3230 High Temperature Grease or an equivalent every 10 hours of operation. If the temperature is more than 200 deg.F or if there have previous reports of overheating of the bearings, see the attached procedure.

Inspect the bearings and replace if necessary. 2. Assemble the main shaft and bearings in the clutch housing without grease. 3. Tighten the bearing adjusting nut while rotating the shaft until it takes 60 in lb to rotate the shaft. 4. Loosen the adjusting nut four notches plus up to one additional notch if necessary to align a notch with the lock plate bolt. Mark the position of the adjusting nut. This will provide bearing end play of .010-.012". 5. Disassemble the main shaft from the clutch housing and handpack the bearings with approximately four ounces (1/4 of a grease cartridge) of 2S3230 High Temperature Grease or an equivalent.
