Information:
3. Remove the bolts that hold clips (4) to the plate. Remove the bolt that holds clip (2) to the bracket. Remove bolts (1). Remove gauge panel (3) from the plate and move it free of the plate.4. Remove the bolts that hold bracket (5) to the timing gear cover. Fasten a hoist to plate (7). Remove bolts (6) that hold plate (8) to the front support on each side of the engine. Remove plate (7). The weight of the plate is 52 Kg (115 lb.).5. Turn the valve for fuel supply to "OFF" position. Release the air pressure in the air tank by loosening the bleed valves. Remove the coolant from the radiator. 6. Disconnect fuel return line (9) and fuel supply line from the fuel tank. Disconnect, or remove all hoses, lines, pipes, and wires on the left side of the engine necessary for the engine removal. Put identification on them for installation. 7. Remove bolts (10), and remove tube assembly (11) from the engine. Disconnect, or remove all hoses, lines, pipes, and wires on the right side of the engine necessary for the engine removal. Put identification on them for installation. 8. Fasten a hoist to tool (A). Put chains on tool (A) and fasten the chains to the engine. 9. Remove bolts (12) that hold engine front support (13) to the frame, on each side of the engine. 10. Loosen nut (14), and tighten screw (15) until it is against the frame on each side of the engine.11. Remove bolts (17) that hold the transmission to the flywheel housing on each side of the engine.12. Lift the engine enough to remove the shims from under the front support. Put identification on the shims so they can be installed in their original position.13. Move the engine forward until it is free of the transmission and ahead of the fuel tank. Remove the engine. The weight of the engine is approximately 1361 Kg (3000 lb.).Install Engine
1. Fasten a hoist to tool (A). Put chains on tool (A) and fasten the chains to the engine.2. Put the engine in position in the machine. Move the engine backward into position on the transmission. If the original shims are not available, put six 0.81 mm (.032 in.) thick and three 0.36 mm (.014 in.) thick shims under each side of the front support.3. Put the shims in their original position under front support (13). Install bolts (12).4. Measure the gap, at the top and bottom, between the flywheel housing bore and the guide (pilot) on the transmission. Add or remove shims to make the gap at the top and bottom the same.5. Move the engine backward and turn the fan to put the coupling in alignment with the flywheel. Install the bolts that hold the flywheel housing to the transmission. Install the bolts that hold the engine front support to the frame. 6. Install bolts (17) that hold the transmission to the flywheel housing on each side of the engine. To complete the support installation, see the topic, Engine Support (16 G Motor Grader) in the Specifications for 3406 Vehicular Engine. Remove tooling (A). 7. Install tube assembly (11) with bolts (10). Connect or install all hoses, lines, pipes, and wires to the right side of the engine. 8. Connect fuel return line (9) and fuel supply line to the fuel tank. Connect or install all hoses, lines, pipes, and wires to the left side of the engine. 9. Fasten a hoist to plate (7) and put it in position in front of the engine. Install bolts (6) that hold plate (8) to the front support on each side of the engine. Install bolts that hold bracket (5) to the timing gear cover.10. Put gauge panel (3) in position on plate (7), and install bolts (1). Install the bolt that holds clip (2) to the bracket. Install the bolts that hold clips (4) to plate (7).11. Turn the valve for the fuel supply to the "ON" position. Fill the radiator with coolant to the correct level. See the Maintenance Guide.12. Install the hood.13. Install the muffler.End By:a. install pump drive **This procedure found in 16G Motor Grader Vehicle Systems, Disassembly And Assembly.
