Start By:a. remove engine compartment shields FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENTCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "TOOLS AND SHOP PRODUCT GUIDE, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and mandates. Put identification on all lines, hoses, wires and tubes for installation purposes. Cap and plug all lines, hoses and tubes to prevent the loss of fluids, and to prevent foreign material from entering the system. Drain all fluids in a suitable container for storage or disposal. Check the condition of all O-ring seals that are in any lines, hoses or tubes disconnected during this procedure. If any of the seals are damaged, use new parts for replacement.1. Drain the radiator and the hydraulic tank in suitable containers for storage or disposal. 2. Put identification marks on hydraulic hose (1) for installation purposes, then disconnect hydraulic hose (1) from the hydraulic tank.3. Loosen band clamps (2) and move hose (4) back on pipe (3). 4. Loosen band clamp (5) and disconnect hose (6) from the hydraulic tank. 5. Put identification marks on hydraulic hoses (7), (8), (9) and (10) for installation purposes, then disconnect hydraulic hoses (7), (8), (9) and (10). 6. Put identification marks on hydraulic hose (11) for installation purposes, then disconnect hose (11) from service brake-hydraulic cooling fan pump (12). 7. Move hoses (8) and (11) through grommets (13) and (14). 8. Put identification marks on hydraulic hoses (15) and (16) for installation purposes, then disconnect them from the hydraulic tank. 9. Put identification marks on fuel line (17) for installation purposes, then disconnect it from the fuel tank. 10. Loosen band clamp (18) from the fuel filler hose. 11. Remove two bolts (20), the washers and bracket (19) from hose (21) and the hydraulic tank. Grommet (22) is very thick. It might have to be cut up and replaced in order to fit hose (17) through the hole in the hydraulic tank wall.12. Pull hose (17) through grommet (22). Remove bolt (23) and the washer that hold strap bracket (24) and pipe (25) to the hydraulic tank. 13. Disconnect plug-receptacle assembly (26). Remove cable strap (28) from wire harness (27), then lay the wire harness out of the way. 14. Loosen band clamp (29) and disconnect hose (30) from the hydraulic tank wall. 15. Remove two bolts (31) and the washers that hold bracket (32) to the hydraulic tank. 16. Remove bolt (33) and the washer that hold wires (35) and strap brackets (34) to bracket (36).
View Of Left Frame Under Fan Housing17. Remove two bolts (37) and the washers that hold the radiator-hydraulic tank mounting frame to the machine frame. There is one bolt on each side of the machine.
View Of Left Frame Just Forward Of The Hydraulic Tank18. Remove bolt (38), bolt (39), and the washers from each side of the radiator-hydraulic tank mounting frame. These bolts hold the radiator-hydraulic tank mounting frame to the machine frame. 19. Open the fan housing (41) by using latch (40). 20. Remove cable strap (42) and disconnect plug-receptacle (43). 21. Put identification marks on wires (32) and switch (44) for installation purposes. Remove two nuts (45) and the washers that hold two wires (32) to switch (44), then remove switch (44) and bracket (35), as one unit from the machine. 22. Attach Tooling (A), lifting slings and a hoist to the radiator-hydraulic tank mounting frame.23. Carefully remove the radiator, hydraulic tank, the radiator-hydraulic tank mounting frame and hydraulic cooling fan housing (46), as one unit, from the machine frame. Be careful not to snag on any hoses or wires. The weight of this unit is approximately 363 Kg (800 lb). 24. Put radiator, hydraulic tank, the radiator-hydraulic tank mounting frame and hydraulic cooling fan housing unit (47) on wood blocks. 25. Loosen band clamps (48) and (50) from hose (49), then remove the hose from the radiator and the hydraulic tank wall. 26. Put identification marks on hydraulic hose (51) for installation purposes, then disconnect the hose from hydraulic filter (52).

Typical Example IT28G Shown28. Remove two bolts (55) and the washers that hold hydraulic cooler (54) to bracket (56). 29. Remove two bolts (58) and the washers that hold hydraulic cooler (54) to bracket (57). Carefully remove hydraulic cooler (54) from the radiator, being especially careful not to damage the cooling fins of the radiator or the hydraulic cooler. 30. Put identification marks on pipe (59) for installation purposes, then disconnect the pipe. 31. Loosen band clamp (62) from hose (61), then disconnect the hose from the radiator.32. Put identification marks on pipe (60) for installation purposes, then disconnect the pipe. 33. Remove two bolts (63), the washers and bracket (64) that hold radiator (65) to frame (66).
