Test Step 1. Check for Connector Damage
Turn the circuit breaker for the engine to the OFF position.
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
Thoroughly inspect the ECM connectors J1/P1 and J2/P2. Inspect all of the other connectors. Refer to the diagnostic functional test Troubleshooting, "Inspecting Electrical Connectors" for details.
Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each of the wires in the ECM connector that are associated with the circuit.
Check the ECM connector (allen head screw) for the proper torque of 6.0 N m (55 lb in).
Check the customer connector (allen head screw) for the proper torque of 2.25 0.25 N m (20 2 lb in).
Check the harness and the wiring for abrasion and for pinch points.Expected Result:The connectors and wiring should be free of the following problems: damage, corrosion, abrasion and incorrect attachment. Results:
OK - The connectors and wiring are okay. Proceed to test step 2.
Not OK - The connectors and/or wiring need repair.Repair: Repair the connectors or wiring and/or replace the connectors or wiring. Stop.Test Step 2. Check the Throttle Lock Lamp.
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
Remove the throttle lock lamp and inspect the lamp.Expected Result:The throttle lock lamp should be operable. Results:
OK - The throttle lock lamp is operable. Proceed to test step 3.
Not OK - The throttle lock lamp is not operable.Repair: Replace the throttle lock lamp. Stop.Test Step 3. Test the Throttle Lock Lamp.
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
Observe the throttle lock lamp.
Enable the throttle lock feature by setting the throttle lock enable switch to the ON position.
Observe the throttle lock lamp. Expected Result:The lamp should be OFF when the feature is disabled. The lamp should illuminate when the feature is ON.Results:
OK - The throttle lock lamp is operating correctly.Repair: If the problem is intermittent, perform the diagnostic functional test Troubleshooting, "Inspecting Electrical Connectors". Stop.
NOT OK, Lamp always OFF - The throttle lock lamp does not illuminate. Proceed to test step 4.
NOT OK, Lamp always ON - The throttle lock lamp is always illuminated. Proceed to test step 5.Test Step 4. Check the Input to the ECM from the "Throttle Lock ON/OFF Switch".
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
Disconnect ECM connector J1/P1.
Measure the resistance between pin P1-29 and pin P1-24 at the ECM connector.
Turn the "throttle lock ON/OFF switch" to the ON position.
Measure the resistance between pin P1-29 and pin P1-24 at the ECM connector.
Reconnect ECM connector J1/P1.Expected Result:The resistance should measure more than 20,000 Ohms when the "throttle lock ON/OFF switch" is in the OFF position. The resistance should measure less than 10 Ohms when the "throttle lock ON/OFF switch" is in the ON position. Results:
OK - The resistance measurements are correct. Proceed to test step 6.
Not OK - The resistance measurements are incorrect.Repair: Disconnect the wires from the "throttle lock ON/OFF switch". Measure the resistance across the terminals of the "throttle lock ON/OFF switch". Toggle the switch. Measure the resistance across the terminals of the "throttle lock ON/OFF switch". The resistance should measure more than 20,000 Ohms when the "throttle lock ON/OFF switch" is in the OFF position. The resistance should measure less than 10 Ohms when "the throttle lock ON/OFF switch" is in the ON position. If the resistance check is okay, repair the wiring and/or replace the wiring between the ECM and the "throttle lock ON/OFF switch". If the resistance is not okay, replace the "throttle lock ON/OFF switch". Stop.Test Step 5. Check the Harness.
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
Disconnect ECM connector J1/P1.
Remove the throttle lock lamp from the lamp socket.
Measure the resistance between wire F706-PU at the throttle lock lamp and the engine ground.
Measure the resistance from the lamp socket to the engine ground.Expected Result:The resistance is less than 20,000 Ohms. Results:
OK - The resistance is less than 20,000 Ohms. There is a short in the harness or the lamp socket.Repair: Replace the lamp socket and/or repair the connectors or wiring. Stop.Test Step 6. Check the Voltage to the Throttle Lock Lamp.
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position. The engine should be OFF.
Measure the voltage at the throttle lock lamp between wire 113-OR and the engine ground.Expected Result:The voltage should measure 24 3 VDC.Results:
OK - The voltage measures 24 3 VDC. Proceed to test step 7.
Not OK - The voltage does not measure 24 3 VDC. Proceed to test step 9.Test Step 7. Check for an Open in the Wiring from the Throttle Lock Lamp to the ECM.
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
Disconnect ECM connector J1/P1.
Remove the throttle lock lamp from the lamp socket.
Measure the resistance between the ECM connector P1-27 and the wire F706-PU at the throttle lock lamp.
Replace the throttle lock lamp.Expected Result:The resistance should measure less than 10 Ohms. Results:
OK - The resistance measures less than 10 Ohms. Proceed to test step 8.
Not OK - The resistance measures more than 10 Ohms.Repair: Repair the connectors or wiring and/or replace the connectors or wiring. Stop.Test Step 8. Check the Signal at the ECM.
Remove wire F706-PU from ECM connector P1-27.
Install a wire jumper with sockets on both ends into P1-27.
Reconnect ECM connector J1/P1.
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
Enable the throttle lock feature by setting the throttle lock enable switch to the ON position.
Measure the voltage between the wire jumper in P1-27 and the + Battery terminal.
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
Remove all wire jumpers. Replace all wires. Reconnect all connectors.Expected Result:The voltage should measure 24 3 VDC.Results:
OK - The voltage measures 24 3 VDC.Repair: The ECM and the wiring in the circuit are okay. If the problem is intermittent, perform the diagnostic functional test Troubleshooting, "Inspecting Electrical Connectors". Stop.
Not OK - The voltage does not measure 24 3 VDC. The sinking driver J1-27 is not working correctly. The input has failed.Repair: Replace the ECM. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Replacing the ECM". Stop.Test Step 9. Check the Voltage at the Keyswitch.
Turn the circuit breaker for the engine to the ON position.
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position. The engine should be off.
Measure the voltage between terminal R and engine
