start by: a) remove air inlet manifold 1. Remove the plug from the fuel injection pump housing. Install timing pin (A).2. While turning the crankshaft clockwise, as seen from the front of the engine, push on the timing pin until it slides into the groove (slot) in the fuel injection pump camshaft.3. Disconnect the wires from switch (1).4. Disconnect linkage (2) from the governor and bracket.5. Remove fuel lines (3) and (4). Disconnect wire (5) from the wire on the fuel shutoff solenoid.6. Remove the tachometer drive adapter. Remove the tachometer drive adapter shaft.7. Install tooling (B) and loosen the gear from the fuel injection pump camshaft as follows: a) Install bolt assembly (6) in the fuel injection pump camshaft. Do not use force to install the bolt assembly.b) Install bolt (7) in the gear. Tighten the bolt until the gear breaks loose from the camshaft.c) Remove tooling (B). 8. Remove timing plug (8) and bolt (9). Install bolt (9) through the timing gear cover and into the timing hole in the camshaft gear. If the bolt can not be installed, turn the crankshaft clockwise as seen from the front of the engine until the bolt can be installed. Do not turn the crankshaft backward to install the bolt.9. Remove the bolts that hold the fuel injection pump housing in place. Fasten a hoist and remove the fuel injection pump housing and governor as a unit. The weight is 55 lb. (23 kg).Install Fuel Injection Pump Housing And Governor (Engines With Taper Drive For Fuel Injection Pump)
1. Inspect the O-ring seals that go between the fuel injection pump housing and the cylinder block. Install new seals if needed. 2. Make sure timing pin (A) is installed in the groove (slot) in the fuel injection pump camshaft. Fasten a hoist and put the fuel injection pump housing and governor in position on the engine. Install bolts (1) that hold the housing in place.3. Install the tachometer drive adapter shaft. Tighten the shaft to a torque of 32 2 lb.ft. (4.4 0.3 mkg).4. To check the timing, remove timing pin (A) and the timing bolt from the timing hole in the timing gear cover. Turn the crankshaft clockwise as seen from the front of the engine two full turns and install the timing pin and timing bolt again. If the timing pin or timing bolt can not be installed, the gear for the fuel injection pump camshaft must be broken loose from the camshaft and the engine put in time. See CAMSHAFT AND GEARS. 5. Remove timing bolt (2) and install it in the timing gear cover.6. Install the plug in the timing hole in the timing gear cover. 7. Install tachometer drive adapter (3). 8. Remove the timing pin and install plug (7). Connect governor linkage (4) to the governor and the bracket.9. Connect the wires to switch (6).10. Install fuel lines (8) and (9).
