Remove the diesel exhaust fluid lines. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Diesel Exhaust Fluid Lines - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
Remove the clean emissions module (SCR). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Clean emissions module - Remove and Install (Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR)" for the correct procedure.
Remove the clean emissions module (SCR) mounting bracket. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Support and Mounting (CEM) - Remove and Install (Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR))" for the correct procedure.
Remove the clean emissions module (DPF). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Clean Emissions Module - Remove and Install (Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)" for the correct procedure.
Remove the clean emissions module (DOC and DPF) mounting bracket. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Support and Mounting (CEM) - Remove and Install (Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF))" for the correct procedure.
Remove the exhaust manifold. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Exhaust Manifold - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
Remove the fuel manifold. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Manifold (Rail) - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
Remove the electronic unit injectors. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Electronic Unit Injector - Remove" for the correct procedure.
Remove the glow plugs. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Glow Plugs - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
Remove the rocker shaft and pushrods. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Rocker Shaft and Pushrod - Remove" for the correct procedure.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or for disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change" for the correct draining procedure.

Disconnect the upper radiator hose from water temperature regulator housing (1) on the cylinder head.
Disconnect the coolant temperature sensor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, Coolant Temperature Sensor - Remove and Install for the correct procedure.
If necessary, remove the water temperature regulator from the cylinder head. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Water Temperature Regulator - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
Disconnect the manifold inlet pressure sensor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, Inlet Manifold Temperature and Pressure Sensor - Remove and Install for the correct procedure.
Disconnect the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) temperature sensor to Disassembly and Assembly, Temperature Sensor (Cooled Exhaust Gas) - Remove and Install for the correct procedure.
Cut all cable straps that secure harness assembly to the cylinder head. The harness assembly should be positioned away from the cylinder head to avoid causing an obstruction during the removal of the cylinder head.

Position Tooling (A) onto cylinder head (2) in Position (Y) and install Tooling (B). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 44 N m (32 lb ft).

Remove bolts (4) from lifting eye (3). Remove lifting eye (3) from mounting bracket (5).

Position lifting eye (3) onto cylinder head (2) in Position (X) and install Tooling (C). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 78 N m (58 lb ft).

Sequence for tightening the bolts for the cylinder head
Gradually loosen bolts (6) in the reverse numerical order to the sequence that is shown in Illustration 6.Note: Follow the correct sequence to help prevent distortion of the cylinder head.
Remove bolts (6) from cylinder head (2).
Attach a suitable lifting device to cylinder head (2). Support the weight of the cylinder head. The weight of the cylinder head is approximately 50 kg (110 lb).Note: A spreader bar should be used to evenly distribute the weight of the cylinder head during the lifting operation.
