Information:
1. Remove part of the dust ejector tube assembly (1) from the muffler.2. Remove muffler supports (2). 3. Fasten a hoist to the muffler. Loosen clamp (4) and remove muffler (3). Weight of muffler is 75 lb. (34 kg). 4. Remove two shields (5) from around the exhaust crossover manifold. Put caps or plugs on all disconnected lines, hoses or openings. 5. Remove dust ejector tube (6) from the air cleaner. Remove oil filler tube (7). 6. Disconnect two heater hoses (9) at the water pump. Loosen the rod assemblies and remove cup assembly (8) from the air cleaner. 7. Remove two air cleaner elements (10). 8. Remove the ten nuts and two bolts (11) that hold the air cleaner housing to the plate assembly. 9. Disconnect air cleaner indicator tube (15) from elbow.10. Remove six bolts (13) and four bolts (12). Remove elbow (14).
Be sure to make correct identification of oil filler lines.
11. Put identification on hoses for correct assembly. Disconnect four fuel lines (16). Disconnect two oil lines (17) to the oil filter. 12. Disconnect tachometer cable (19). Remove nut, lockwasher and bolt to disconnect throttle linkage (18). 13. Remove two bolts and clips (21) and (25). Remove cable (20) from circuit breaker. Disconnect two wires at connectors (22). Cut safety wire and remove electrical plug (23). Disconnect fuel line (24).
Make sure all electrical plugs, connectors, wires and clips are removed from the engine.
14. Put identification on the starter cables. Remove three cables (26) from the starter. 15. Disconnect engine oil pressure indicator line (27). 16. Loosen belt tightener rod. Remove refrigerant compressor belt (29) from the refrigerant compressor.17. Remove bolt (30) that holds the belt tightener rod to the alternator bracket. Remove four bolts (28) that hold the refrigerant compressor support to the engine. Disconnect wire (31) from compressor. Lower refrigerant compressor (32) and fasten it to the frame. 18. Disconnect ground wire (33) from the frame. Remove four bolts (34) that hold the engine front support to the chassis. 19. Remove two bolts (35) from bracket and remove wiring harnesses from bracket. The bracket was removed for better photo illustration. 20. Disconnect air compressor discharge line (39) and governor line (40). Disconnect flywheel housing breather line (38).21. Disconnect scavenge pump discharge line (37). Disconnect return line (36) to the hydraulic seat. 22. Disconnect hose (41). 23. Disconnect hoses (42). 24. Remove two engine rear mount caps (43).
Lift the engine and retarder from the frame slowly. Make sure all lines and hoses are disconnected or removed.
25. Fasten a hoist and tool (A) to the engine. Remove the engine and retarder as a unit. Weight of the unit is 5600 lb. (2520 kg).Install Engine And Retarder
1. Check all seals and gaskets for damage. If damaged, use new parts for replacement. 2. Fasten a hoist and tool (A) to the engine and retarder. Put engine and retarder in position on the frame as a unit. Weight of the engine and retarder is 5600 lb. (2520 kg). 3. Install the engine rear mount caps (1). Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 320 15 lb.ft. (435 20 N m). 4. Install the engine front support bolts (4). Tighten bolts (4) to a torque of 265 35 lb.ft. (360 45 N m). Connect the ground wire (3) to the frame. 5. Install hoses (5) from the transmission. 6. Connect line (6) from the differential to the retarder control valve. 7. Connect return line (7) from the hydraulic seat. Connect scavenge pump discharge line (8).8. Connect flywheel housing breather line (9). Connect air compressor governor line (11) and discharge line (10). Bracket was removed for photo illustration. 9. Install wiring harness (12) on bracket. 10. Install refrigerant compressor (15) on the engine. Install belt tightener rod (14) to the alternator bracket. Install vee belt (13). See SPECIFICATIONS for correct belt tension. Tighten the nuts on the belt tightener and rod to a torque of 110 15 lb.ft. (149 20 N m). 11. Install engine oil pressure indicator line (16). 12. Install three cables (17) to the starter. 13. Install clips (23), (19) and wiring harness (20).14. Install fuel line (22), two wiring connectors (21) and cable to the circuit breaker (18).15. Make sure all electrical plugs, connectors, wires and clips are installed during engine installation. 16. Install tachometer cable (25) and throttle linkage (24).
Make sure that the oil filter hoses are connected correctly.
17. Connect oil filter lines (27). Connect four fuel lines (26). 18. Install elbow (28) to the air cleaner. Install air cleaner indicator tube to elbow. 19. Install gasket (29) and air cleaner housing (30). 20. Install two air cleaner elements (31). 21. Install cup (33) on the air cleaner. Install oil filler tube (34).22. Install two water heater hoses (35). Install part of the dust ejector tube (32). 23. Install two shields (36). 24.
Be sure to make correct identification of oil filler lines.
