start by:a) remove fuel injection pump housing and governorb) remove valve cover 1. Remove two bolts and belt tightener (1) from the timing gear cover. 2. Remove plug (3) from the timing gear cover with tool (A). Remove O-ring seal (2) from the plug. 3. Loosen nuts (5) that hold the accessory drive in position approximately .250 in. (6.35 mm). Make sure the parts on tooling are not dropped in the timing gear cover. 4. Install tool (B) in the timing gear cover as shown. Loosen the bolt that holds the gear on the accessory drive until the taper between the accessory drive and gear is broken.5. Remove tool (B). Remove the bolt and washer.6. Remove nuts (5) and accessory drive (4) from the timing gear plate.Install Accessory Drive
1. Make sure the O-ring seal is in position on the accessory drive. Install accessory drive (1) and the nuts that hold it in place.2. Install tool (A) in timing pin hole (2). Make sure tool (A) is engaged in the notch in the fuel cam of the accessory drive.3. Install the accessory drive gear, washer and bolt. Tighten the bolt finger tight. Never turn the crankshaft backward to install the bolt in the flywheel.4. Put No. 1 piston at the top center compression position (TDC) with the following procedure: a) Remove the plug from the flywheel housing. b) Turn the crankshaft clockwise (as seen from the front of the engine) until a 3/8"-16 NC bolt (3) can be installed through the timing hole in the flywheel housing and into the hole in the flywheel. 5. Check to see if both the rocker arms for the No. 1 piston can be moved backward and forward by hand. The No. 1 piston is at top center compression position when the bolt is installed in the flywheel, and both rocker arms for No. 1 piston can be moved backward and forward. If both rocker arms can not be moved, the No. 1 piston is not at the top center compression position. Remove the bolt from the flywheel. Turn the crankshaft clockwise (as seen from the front of the engine) one full turn (3604) and install the bolt again.6. Make sure the timing bolt and timing pin are in position.7. Tighten the accessory drive gear bolt to a torque of 110 5 lb.ft. (149 7 N m).8. Remove the timing pin from the accessory drive. Remove the timing bolt from the flywheel. 9. Put O-ring seal (4) in position on plug (5).10. Install plug (5) in the timing gear cover. 11. Put belt tightener (6) in position and install the bolts that hold it to the timing gear cover.12. Adjust the belt tension. See TESTING AND ADJUSTING for correct belt tension.end by:a) install fuel injection pump housing and governorb) install valve coverDisassemble Accessory Drive
