PRODUCT SUPPORT PROGRAM FOR OIL PUMP ROTOR ASSEMBLY FAILURES IN CERTAIN 3204 ENGINES, 1304, PS4041 (Revised June, 1986) U-66 A-30 AU-52 C-65 E-44 O-46 See September 3, 1986 Replace Service Letter (PS4041) dated January 8, 1986, with this revised Service Letter. Dealers in Caterpillar Americas did not receive the January 8, 1986 Service Letter as a general mailing because of a limited population of the Affected Product (953 only) at the time of the Service Letter. These dealers should consider this to be the original Service Letter. This Program can be administered either before or after a failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS4041" as Part Number and "7755" as Group Number. Although products in the field are to be administered as described above, dealer should purge parts stock immediately. Some of the affected product in this Program are also affected by another Program, PS4022, dated September 17, 1985 (Revised April, 1986). Dealers may want to administer this Program (PS4041) at the same time they administer the other Program (PS4022). Termination Date

Problem
The 2W1506X Oil Pump Rotor Assembly used in the Affected Product may not provide acceptable service life. The rotor assembly can experience worn, chipped or broken teeth and can result in low engine oil pressure. This has only been a problem with 2W1506X Rotor Assemblies. 2W1506 Rotor Assemblies (without the "x" after the part number) have the manufacturers name (Reef Ind.) and the part number etched on them. The 2W1506 Rotor Assemblies have provided good service life.

Action Required
Remove all 2W1506X Rotor Assemblies from parts stock. Remove only the rotor assemblies which have an "X" after the part number on the box (2W1506X). For affected product, first inspect the engine serial number plate. If "OP" is stamped on the plate the engine has already been reworked. If the engine has not been reworked, install the new parts using the procedures in the Service Manual. After the new rotor assembly has been installed, stamp "OP" on the engine Serial Number plate. WARRANTY ALLOWANCES Submit one claim for all 2W1506X Rotor Assemblies removed from parts stock. (SEE ILLUSTRATION)
