Install Oil Pump
1. Put oil pump (1) in position.
Be sure the dowels in the oil pump body are engaged with the holes in the block. Also be sure the oil pump drive gear is correctly engaged with the crankshaft gear before the bolts are installed. Failure to do so can cause damage to the oil pump.
2. Install the bolts which hold the oil pump to engine.Disassemble Oil Pump
start by:a) remove oil pump1. Remove the bolt and pull pipe assembly (1) out of the pump body. 2. Loosen bolt (2) that holds the pump drive gear. Leave a gap of 3.2 mm (.125 in.) between bolt (2) and washer (3). 3. Use tool (B) to remove the oil pump drive gear (4) from the oil pump shaft. 4. Remove bolt (2), washer (3) and gear (4) and key.5. Remove cover (5). 6. Remove body assembly (6) from spacer assembly (8) and body assembly (7). 7. Inspect bearings (9) in body assembly (6). Make a replacement if necessary. 8. Use tooling (A) and an arbor press to push bearings (9) from body (6).9. Remove pump scavenge section drive gear (11) and driven gear (10). 10. Remove spacer assembly (8). 11. Inspect bearings (12) in spacer assembly (8). Make a replacement if necessary. 12. Use tooling (A) and an arbor press to push bearings (12) from spacer assembly (8). 13. Remove pump drive shaft assembly (13) and drive shaft assembly (14) from body assembly (7).
Retainer (15) is under spring force and can release suddenly if not held in place while the bolts are removed.
13. Remove retainer (15) from body assembly (7). 14. Remove spacer (18), spring (17) and plunger (16) from body assembly (7). 15. Inspect bearings (19) in body assembly (7). Make replacements if necessary. 16. Use tooling (A) and an arbor press to push bearings (19) from body assembly (7).Assemble Oil Pump
1. Make sure all of the parts are clean and free of dirt and foreign material. Put clean engine oil on the parts at time of assembly. 2. Use tool group (A) to install bearings (2) until they are even with the outside surface of main pump body (1). Install bearings (2) so the junctions in the bearings are 30° 15° from thecenter line of the bearing bores and toward the oil pump outlet passage as shown. 3. Install plunger (3) in pump body (1). The plunger must move freely in its bore in pump body (1). 4. Install spring (4) and spacer (5).5. Install retainer (6). Hold spring (4) in compression with retainer (6) and install the bolts which hold the retainer. 6. Install drive shaft assembly (8) and driven shaft assembly (7) in pump body (1). 7. Use tooling (A) to install the bearings in spacer (9). Install the bearings in the center of their bores. Make sure the oil holes in the bearings are in alignment with the oil holes in the spacer and the junctions in the bearings are in alignmentwith the cavity in the spacer. 8. Install spacer (9) over the shaft assemblies. Install spacer (9) with the cavity toward outside. 9. Install scavenge pump gears (10) on the shaft assemblies. 10. Use tooling (A) to install bearings (11) in the pump body (12) until they are 1.52 0.25 mm (.060 .010 in.) from the inside edge of the bearing bores. Install the bearings so the junctionsin the bearing are 30° 15° from the center line of the bearing bores and toward the outlet passage. The outlet passage has a cavity between the bearing bores. 11. Put scavenge section body (12) in position over the shaft assemblies and against pump body (1). Install the two bolts to hold the pump together. 12. Install cover (13) on scavenge pump section cover (12). 13. Install key (15) in the oil pump drive shaft and install gear (14). 14. Install bolt (16) and washer to hold the drive gear. Tighten bolt (16) to a torque of 55 7 N m (41 5 lb.ft.).end by:a) install oil pump
