INSTALL PARTS ON ICM TRANSMISSIONS TO PREVENT STARTING ENGINE WITH TRANSMISSION LEVER IN GEAR, 651E, 657E, 768C, 772B, 776 Tractors; 769C, 773B, 777 Trucks, 3167, 3168, 1424, PI1034 U-2 A-1 AU-1 C-1 E-2 O-1 safety Problem Effective with the first serial numbers listed in the Chart, each model is equipped with the ICM (Individual Clutch Modulated) transmission. It is possible that the engine in any of the listed machines can be started with the transmission selector lever "in gear". This could cause the vehicle to move unexpectedly. A neutral start switch is now used to prevent the starter from cranking if the transmission is left in gear. If the operator attempts to start the machine and is unaware that the transmission is in gear, the vehicle can move unexpectedly. Service To Be Performed Caterpillar would like to install new parts on your machine(s) which prevent the engine from starting with the transmission control lever in gear. This will be done at no cost to you. To Have Service Performed Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately and schedule a time to have the service performed.
