3. Remove the bolts and eight plates (2) that hold the guard assemblies together.4. Remove bolts (1) that hold guard assemblies (3) in place. Remove the guard assemblies from the radiator.
Effective July 1, 1992 regulations prohibit the venting of any refrigerant into the atmosphere. Refer to Caterpillar publication SENR3334-01 and NEDG5065-01 for the proper procedure, equipment and tools to reclaim refrigerant from any Caterpillar machine.
Always wear goggles when the air conditioning system is opened. This system is charged with Freon-12 (ccL2F2-Dichlorodifluoromethane) which is not toxic or flammable. But, there is a reason for caution. When Freon- 12 makes contact with a flame, lethal phosgene gas is made. INHALING FREON THROUGH A LIGHTED CIGARETTE CAN CAUSE VIOLENT ILLNESS. This system is under pressure at all times, engine running or not. HEAT MUST NEVER BE PUT ON A CHARGED SYSTEM. See AIR CONDITIONING AND HEATING SERVICE MANUAL Form No. SENR3334-01 for more information on procedures and requirements on removal and installation of lines and refrigerant for the system.
5. Disconnect air conditioning hoses (4).6. Disconnect wire harness (6).7. Remove the bolt and clip (5).8. Loosen two hose clamps (9), and move hose (7) away from the radiator.9. Remove bolt (8) from both sides of the radiator. 10. Loosen the two hose clamps, and move hose (10) away from the radiator. 11. Remove six bolts (11) and grill assembly (12) from the radiator. 12. Remove four bolts (13) and guard (14) from the tractor. The weight of the guard is 42 Kg (93 lb). 13. Disconnect tube assemblies (15) at both ends, and remove them from the radiator. 14. Attach nylon straps and a hoist at guards (16) as shown. Remove four bolts (17), and remove radiator (18) from the tractor. The weight of the radiator is 227 Kg (500 lb).Install Radiator
1. Attach nylon straps and a hoist at guards (16). Put radiator (18) in position on the frame, and install four bolts (17). 2. Position tube assemblies, and connect them at both ends. 3. Put guard (14) in position, and install four bolts (13) that hold it. 4. Install grill assembly (12), and six bolts (11) that hold it. 5. Put hose (10) in position on the radiator, and tighten the two hose clamps that hold it. 6. Install bolt (8) on both sides of the radiator.7. Put hose (7) in position on the radiator, and tighten two hose clamps (9) that hold it.8. Position clip (5) and install the bolt that holds it.9. Connect wire harness (6).10. Connect air conditioning hoses (4). 11. Put guard assemblies (3) in position on the radiator and install bolts (1) that hold them.12. Install plates (2) and the bolts that hold them.13. Install the guard assemblies on the left and right sides of the engine.14. Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. See the Maintenance Guide.15. Check the operation of the air conditioning system. See Air Conditioning And Heating Service Manual, Form No. SENR3334, for the correct procedures.Disassemble Radiator (folded core)
Start By:a. remove radiator 1. Remove the bolts that hold shield assemblies (1) in place. Remove the four shield assemblies from the radiator.

Remove two bolts (18) that hold core assembly (17) to two straps (19) (one on each side of the core assembly).13. Loosen two bolts (16) that hold the other end of straps (19). Move the straps away from core assembly (17). Remove the core assembly.14. Repeat Steps 12 and 13 to remove the remaining core assemblies. 15. Remove seals (20) from the bottom of the core assemblies.Assemble Radiator (folded core)
1. Make sure the core assemblies and the holes in the bottom tank are clean and free of dirt and foreign material.2. Lightly lubricate the inside diameter and the sealing surfaces of the seals, the bottom tank and the core assemblies with liquid soap. There are two different seals used on the top and bottom of the core assemblies. The distance between the projections on each end of the core assemblies is different. Make sure the correct seal is installed on each end of the core assemblies.
