Information:

1. Release the pressure in the cooling system by slowly loosening the fill cap on the radiator. Drain the coolant from the cooling system by placing a drain hose through the hole in the back of the bumper and opening the drain valve. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to the "Operation & Maintenance Manual" for cooling system capacities. 2. Remove bolts (1) and bottom fan shroud (2) from the radiator guard. 3. Remove bolts (3) and spider fan (4) from fan drive housing (5). Remove bolts (6) and fan drive housing (5) from fan drive. 4. Remove hose clamp (7) on top radiator hose (8). 5. Remove two hoses clamps (9) and slide hose (10) off drain elbow. Remove hose (11) from drain elbow (12).
Effective July 1, 1992 regulations prohibit the venting of any refrigerant into the atmosphere. Refer to Caterpillar publication SENR3334, SENR5664 and NEDG5065 for the proper procedure, equipment and tools to reclaim refrigerant from any Caterpillar machine.
Always wear goggles when working on air conditioning systems. The system is under pressure at all times, engine running or not. Escaping refrigerant R-12 (C C12 F2 Dichloro Difluoro Methane) and refrigerant R-134A can cause freezing of human flesh. Do not smoke while working on air conditioning system. Inhaling Refrigerant R-12 or R-134A through any smoking material, although not toxic or flammable, can cause violent illness. Also heat must never be applied to a charged system. Refer to the "Air Conditioning And Heating Service Manual Form No. SENR3334 and SENR5664," for more information on removal and installation of lines and refrigerant from the system. Remove refrigerant from the air conditioning system using a refrigerant reclaimer.
6. Disconnect the fittings of air condenser lines (13) from the air conditioner condenser. Plug the fittings in order to keep dirt out of the refrigerant system. 7. Remove bolts (14) and radiator grill (15) from radiator shroud. 8. Disconnect wiring harness (16) on radiator grill (15). The weight of radiator grill (15) is 24 Kg (53 lb). 9. Remove bolts (17) and plate (18) from front of shroud. Remove wiring harness and grommet (16) from plate (18). 10. Secure lifting device to radiator shroud (19). Remove bolts (20) and radiator shroud (19) from machine. Remove the radiator group from the machine frame. The weight of the radiator group is 173 Kg (380 lb).Install Radiator
Check the condition of the radiator prior to installation. Remove any dirt or debris that may restrict the flow of air through the core. If any of the cooling fins are bent, they should be straightened.1. Clean any dirt off of the frame and the bottom of the radiator group. Check the condition of O-ring seals used in the hose assemblies that were disconnected. If any of the O-ring seals are damaged, use new parts for replacement. 2. Install lifting device to radiator shroud (19). Install bolts (20) to radiator shroud (19). 3. Install wiring harness (16) and grommet to plate (18). Install plate (18) and bolts (17) to front of shroud. 4. Connect wiring harness (16) and install radiator grill (15) and bolts (14) to front of radiator shroud. 5. Connect the fittings of air condenser lines (13) to the air conditioner condenser. 6. Install hose (11) to drain valve (12). Position bottom radiator hose (10) and install two hose clamps (9) to drain valve. 7. Position top radiator hose (8) and install hose clamp (7). 8. Install fan drive housing (5) and bolts (6) to fan drive. Install fan (4) and bolts (3) to the fan drive housing. 9. Install bottom fan shroud (2) and bolts (1) to radiator shroud.10. Fill the radiator to the proper level with engine coolant. Refer to the "Operation & Maintenance Manual" for the proper procedures in order to fill the radiator.11. Fill the air conditioning system with refrigerant to the correct pressure level. Refer to "SENR3334, SENR5664 and NEDG5065" for the proper filling procedure.End By:a. install hood
