At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Drain the coolant only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap from the radiator slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to avoid personal injury.
1. Remove plug (1) and drain remaining coolant.2. Loosen clamps (2) and slide hose (3) on tube assembly.3. Identify and disconnect wires (4).4. Disconnect hoses (5) and (6).5. Remove bolts (7) and bolts (8).6. Remove water pump and gaskets.Install Water Pump
1. Position gaskets and water pump. Install bolts (7) and (8).2. Connect hoses (5) and (6).3. Connect wires (4).4. Slide hose (3) on water pump and tighten clamps (2).5. Install plug (1).6. Fill the cooling system. Refer to the "Operation & Maintenance Manual" for the proper procedure to fill the cooling system.End By:a. install hoodDisassemble Water Pump
Start By:a. remove water pump 1. Remove bolts (2), elbow (1) and gasket from water pump. 2. Remove bolts (4) and cover (3) from housing. 3. Loosen bolt (5) approximately 6.35 mm (.250 in).4. Hit the bolt with a soft hammer in order to remove impeller (6) from the shaft.5. Remove bolt (5) and impeller (6). 6. Remove spring (7) and seal assembly (8) from the shaft. 7. Turn the housing over and remove bolt (9). 8. After the removal of bolt (9) install bolt from Tooling (A) in the shaft of gear and bearing assembly (10).9. Put plate from driver group in Tooling (A) on top of bolt, and install the remainder of Tooling (A) on gear and bearing assembly (10) as shown.10. Remove gear and bearing assembly (10) with Tooling (A). Remove the gear and bearing assembly. The gear is held in place by two pins on the bottom. 11. If necessary remove bearing (11) from the gear with Tool (B) and a press. 12. Remove retaining ring (12) from the housing with Tooling (C). Remove the bearing and shaft assembly. 13. If necessary, remove bearing (13) from the shaft with Tooling (D) and a press. 14. Turn the housing over and remove the Lip-type seal with Tooling (D). Assemble Water Pump
The Lip-type seal must be installed with the lip toward the bearings. 1. Install the lip-type seal in housing with Tooling (A) to the bottom of the seal counterbore. Put a thin layer of engine oil on the lip of the seal. 2. Use a press and Tooling (A) to install bearing (13) on shaft (14).3. Install shaft (14) and bearing assembly in housing. 4. Install retaining ring (12) in housing with Tooling (B). 5. Use a press and Tooling (A) in order to install bearing (11) on the gear.
When gear is installed, make sure the pins on the gear engage the holes in the shaft.
6. Put gear and bearing assembly (10) in position on the shaft and install washer and bolt.
Clean water only is permitted for use as a lubricant for assistance at installation. Do not damage or put hands on the wear surface of the carbon ring or the ceramic ring. Install the ceramic ring with the smoothest face of the ring toward the carbon seal assembly.
7. Put ceramic ring (15) in position in the rubber seal. Use hand pressure and the tool (which is with the replacement ring) in order to install the ceramic ring and rubber seal. 8. Remove the spring from the seal assembly (8). Use hand pressure and the tool (which is with the replacement ring) in order to install the seal assembly. Push seal assembly on the shaft until the seal faces make light contact. 9. Install spring (7) on the seal assembly. 10. Put impeller (6) in position on the shaft. 11. Install washer and bolt (5). Tighten the bolt to a torque of 38 1 N m (28 1 lb ft).12. Install a new gasket and cover (3) on the housing. 13. Install a new gasket on elbow (1). Position elbow (1) on the housing. Install bolts (2) that hold elbow (1) to the housing.End By:a. install water pump
