Introduction
This Special Instruction outlines the procedures to install the new bolted engine hood bracket on excavators with a composite engine hood. The new bolted engine hood bracket replaces the former non-bolted bracket. The non-bolted engine hood bracket may fail to adhere to the composite engine hood. The former engine hood bracket had been secured to the composite engine hood by an adhesive. The new bolted hood bracket prevents the separation of the bracket from the composite hood. This rework procedure will extend the service life of the engine hood bracket on machines with a composite hood.The new bolted engine hood bracket replaces the former non-bolted bracket on the following excavator models that are equipped with a composite engine hood: 320B, 322B, 325B and 330B. The bolted bracket is effective with the excavator models that are listed in Table 1. The new bracket is adaptable to the above listed models with a composite engine hood.Do not perform any installation procedures until you have read the information in this publication.

2     174-6191     Spacer     none    This rework procedure is for the 320B Excavators that are equipped with a composite engine hood.Note: Perform the following tasks before you begin this rework procedure:
Move the machine to a flat surface area.
Shut off the engine.
Allow the exhaust pipe to cool.
When the hood support bracket is no longer attached to the engine hood, the hood support can not be used to hold the engine hood in its open position.You must secure the engine hood with an additional holding device while performing the support bracket installation.

When the engine hood bracket (1) separates from the composite engine hood, the hood support (2) is unable to secure the engine hood (3) in the open position. Secure the engine hood with an additional holding device, when you install the new support bracket.

Remove cotter pin (4) from clevis pin (5). Remove the pin (5) and remove the washer (6) from the engine hood bracket (1). Release the hood support (2) from the bracket (1). The cotter pin (4), the pin (5), the washer (6), and the support (2) will be reused. You may discard the engine hood bracket (1).

The new hood support bracket is bolted. Drill six 9 mm (0.35 inch) holes into the composite engine hood for the installation of the new bracket. Refer to Illustration 3 and Illustration 4 in order to determine the location of the bolt holes.

Position the new hood support bracket (7) at the drilled holes on the engine hood. Install the two spacers (9) and the six hex socket drive screws (8) that secure the support bracket (7) to the engine hood (3), as Illustration 5 shows.
Torque the hex socket drive screws (8) to 28 7 N m (21 5 lb ft).
