102-0
Engine Intake Manifold #1 Pressure : High - most severe (3) E1044(3)
High Intake Manifold Pressure The intake manifold air pressure is above the trip point for the programmed delay time.

Troubleshooting Test Step Value Result
1. Check for Codes
A. Connect Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) to the service tool connector. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electronic Service Tools", if necessary.
B. Download the "Product Status Report" from the engine ECM before performing any troubleshooting or clearing diagnostic trouble codes.
C. Determine if the diagnostic trouble code that directed to this procedure is present.
D. Look for active diagnostic codes that are associated with the system for the event code that directed to this procedure.
Codes
Result: An associated code is present.
Repair: Troubleshoot any associated codes before continuing with this test.
Result: An E1044 code is present.
Proceed to the next step.
Result: No active codes
STOP
2. Air Inlet and Exhaust Restrictions
A. Check the air filter for damage. If necessary, replace damaged air filters. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual.
B. Check the air inlet and exhaust system for restrictions and/or leaks. Make any necessary repairs. Refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting
Restriction
Result: The air inlet and exhaust systems are ok.
Repair: Proceed to the next step.
Result:An air inlet or exhaust system problem was identified.
Repair: Repair the problem with the air inlet or exhaust system. If the problem is not resolved, proceed to the next step.
3. Check the Full Load Setting (FLS)
A. Verify that the FLS is correct for your engine and engine application.
FLS
Result: The FLS is not correct.
Repair: Program the correct FLS.
4. Inspect the Wastegate Assembly (High Altitude Only)
A. Inspect the wastegate valve for any damaged or missing parts
B. With the engine off, remove the boost line from the wastegate actuator canister on top of the wastegate valve. Apply 290 kPa (42 psi) of air pressure from an external source to the actuator canister. Ensure that the butterfly valve opens and closes freely through the full range of motion. Do NOT over-pressurize the actuator canister.
Note: Reinstall boost line onto actuator canister once step is complete.
Note: Some air leakage from the wastegate canister is normal and acceptable as designed. Do not replace a wastegate valve for small air leaks around the wastegate actuator.
Wastegate Functionality
26 2°
Result: Wastegate is found to have damaged or missing parts.
Repair: Repair or replace damaged or missing parts.
Verify that the repair resolved the issue. Return to service.
Result: Wastegate butterfly valve does not open freely or travel through its range of motion.
Repair: Replace wastegate assembly.
Verify that the repair resolved the issue. Return to service.
Result: Wastegate butterfly valve travels freely through the full range of motion.
Repair: Proceed to next Step.
5. Inspect the Intake Manifold Air Pressure Sensors
A. Inspect Pressure Sensors. Unplug sensors, inspect sensor port and connectors for dirt, debris, or obstructions.
B. Connect Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET). Start the engine and monitor the Inlet Manifold air pressure reading on each bank of the engine. Pressure readings between the right bank and the left bank should be within 34 kPa (5 psi).
Pressure sensors
Result: Pressure Sensors are "NOT OK"
Repair: Clean the connector or sensor port, or make the necessary repairs to the connectors.
Result: Pressure readings are not within 34 kPa (5 psi) between the left and right bank pressure readings.
Repair: Inspect for boost or exhaust leaks. If leaks are found, repair leaks and retest. If No leaks are identified, replace the intake manifold air pressure sensors.
Result: Pressure Sensors are OK
Repair: Reinstall sensor and plug in harness.
Proceed with this step.
Result: Pressure Readings are within 34 kPa (5 psi) on both the left and right bank of the engine.
Repair: Proceed to next step.
If the procedure did not correct the issue, contact your Cat dealer Technical Communicator (TC). For further assistance, your TC can confer with the Dealer Solutions Network (DSN).
