Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "System Pressure - Release".
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.Steam can cause personal injury.Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Use caps and plugs on all lines, hoses, and tubes in order to prevent fluid loss or contamination of the systems.Note: The radiator core consists of eight core assemblies. Each core assembly can be removed individually.Note: The radiator core can be removed while the radiator and the fan assembly are on the chassis. If the radiator core and the fan assembly have been removed from the chassis, begin with Step 7.
Open the engine hood. The radiator assembly is located at the rear of the machine.
Drain the radiator. The capacity of the cooling system is 43 L (11.4 US gal).

Remove two bolts (3) and the washers. Move two hoses (1) away from the upper radiator tank.
Disconnect the tube (2) for the upper radiator (2) from the radiator tank.
Remove two bolts (4) and the hose clamps. Move the drain hose away from the fan shroud.

Remove two bolts (5) which hold support bar (6) in place. Repeat this step for the other side of the radiator.

Remove twelve bolts (7) which hold the upper radiator tank in place.
Install Tooling (A) on the upper radiator tank. Attach a hoist and suitable lifting slings in order to remove the upper radiator tank.

Remove bolts (8) and the tie straps.

Lift upper radiator tank (9) away from the radiator assembly. The weight of the upper radiator tank (9) is 36 kg (80 lb).
Remove end tank seals (10) from the upper radiator tank and from the lower radiator tank.

Carefully remove radiator cores (11) from the radiator assembly.Installation Procedure
