Table 1
Diagnostic Codes Table
Description    Conditions which Generate this Code    System Response
1446-5 Fuel Metering Module : Current Below Normal     The fuel metering valve has detected an excessive current in the circuit for the Pulse Width Modulated signal (PWM signal) that is for the control module. The problem was reported to the Electronic Control Module (ECM) over the CAN data link.     The code is logged.
The alarm output is activated.
1446-9 Fuel Metering Module : Abnormal Update Rate     The ECM has not received the last ten messages that were expected from the fuel metering valve over the CAN data link.
1446-12 Fuel Metering Module : Failure     After the ECM has been powered for five seconds, the fuel metering valve has reported that an internal fault has occurred.     The code is logged.
The alarm output is activated.
The shutdown output is activated.
The engine is shut down.
1446-13 Fuel Metering Module : Calibration Required     After the ECM has been powered for five seconds, the fuel metering valve has reported that a calibration is necessary for the valve.     The code is logged.
The alarm output is activated.
1447-12 Fuel Metering Sensor Module : Failure     The fuel metering valve has detected an internal failure of the sensor module. The problem was reported to the ECM over the CAN data link.     The code is logged.
The alarm output is activated.
The shutdown output is activated.
The engine is shut down.    The fuel metering valve is an electronic gas valve that controls the flow of fuel to the engine. The valve works with the master ECM in order to ensure the correct flow of gas in all conditions of engine operation. The master ECM sends a command signal for the desired flow of fuel and information about the specific gravity of the gas to the fuel metering valve. The valve converts the command signal and the information into a valve position that directly corresponds to the desired gas flow. The position of the valve is compensated by these additional factors that are internal to the valve: a signal for absolute fuel pressure, differential pressure across the valve and fuel temperature sensors.CommunicationsThe ECM sends the following information to the fuel metering valve via the CAN data link:
The specific gravity of the fuel
Command signal for the fuel flowThe fuel metering valve sends the following information to the ECM via the CAN data link:
Position of the fuel valve
Absolute fuel pressure
Differential pressure across the valve
Fuel temperatureIf the ECM and the fuel metering valve cannot communicate via the CAN data link, a 1446-9 diagnostic code is activated. If the engine is running, the fuel metering valve will use the command signal from the PWM signal. The engine will continue to run. However, if the engine is not running and a 1446-9 diagnostic code becomes active, the ECM will not allow the engine to start.PWM SignalThe ECM sends the command signal for the fuel flow via a PWM signal. If the PWM signal for the flow of fuel is interrupted, a 1446-5 diagnostic code will be activated. The fuel metering valve will use the command signal for the fuel flow via the CAN data link.Self-diagnostic Function and Status Indicator
Illustration 1 g01416443
Location of the status indicator on the fuel metering valveThe fuel metering valve has a status indicator that is located on the top of the valve. The status indicator flashes three different colors in order to indicate the current diagnostic status of the valve. The color of the status indicator provides the operator with information that is related to the severity of any existing problems. During operation, the status indicator will flash one of the following colors:Green - The fuel metering valve is operating normally.Orange - The fuel metering valve has detected an abnormal condition that may affect the normal operation of the engine. The valve continues to meter fuel for the engine.Red - The valve has detected a system problem that is serious. The valve shuts off the fuel to the engine. The status indicator provides detailed information about the problem through the use of flash codes. If a problem with the valve occurs, count the number of flashes that is displayed by the status indicator. The flash code indicates the particular error that has been detected by the valve. Before performing maintenance on the valve, observe the status indicator. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7630, "WOODWARD RAPTOR GAS REGULATION AND METERING VALVE/ACTUATOR SYSTEM" for detailed information about flash codes and for information that is related to troubleshooting the fuel metering valve.

Thoroughly inspect the harness connectors for fuel metering valve (1). Also, thoroughly inspect the condition of connectors (2), (3), (4), and (5). Check fuses (6) and (7) for good repair. Ensure that terminals (8) for the −Battery connections are tight and free of corrosion. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect".
