Information:
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot water or steam. Any contact can cause severe burns. Look at the sight gauge to check the coolant level. The coolant level should be in the green range. If necessary, remove the fill cap only after the engine has been stopped and the cap is cool enough to remove with your bare hand. Remove the cooling system fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system condition contains alkali that can cause personal injury. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes and do not drink. Allow cooling system components to cool before draining.
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact the skin. Be sure that the engine and components are cool enough to touch with your bare hand prior to performing any service work.
1. Position a suitable container under drain plug (2) to contain the coolant for storage or disposal. Loosen drain plug (2) on radiator elbow (1). Repeat procedure on remaining drain plug. The capacity of the cooling system is 300 L (79 U.S. gal). 2. Position a suitable container under pipe plug (5) to contain the engine oil for storage or disposal. Remove pipe plug (5) from adapter plug (4). Loosen oil drain plug (3) and drain the engine oil. The oil capacity of the engine is 125 L (33 U.S. gal). 3. Position a suitable container under bolt (6) to contain the engine oil for storage or disposal. Remove bolt (6) and the washer from oil pan rear section (7). 4. Remove four bolts (8) that hold elbow (9) to engine oil cooler (10). Remove elbow (9), tube (11), and the O-ring seals from engine oil cooler (10), and cooler bypass elbow (12). 5. Mark and identify three bolts (13) for installation purposes. Remove three bolts (13) that hold cooler bypass elbow (12) to engine oil cooler (10). Remove cooler bypass elbow (12), tube (14), and the O-ring seals from engine oil cooler (10). 6. Remove two bolts (15), the nuts, and the washers that hold primary fuel filter base (16) to the engine. Move primary fuel filter base (16) out of the way. 7. Disconnect hose assembly (18) from engine oil cooler bonnet (17). 8. Position two lifting slings around engine oil cooler (10), as shown. Secure the lifting slings to a hoist.
