(11) Clamp-on ammeterOverrides on the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) for the Heated NozzleARD Fuel Nozzle Heat Cycle - This override activates the output for the heated nozzle in order to clean the nozzle. The output remains activated for approximately one hour. The engine coolant temperature must be greater than 60° C (140° F). The heat cycle will wait for an active regeneration to complete before starting. Once the override has been activated the heat cycle will automatically start as soon as conditions have been met and cannot be deactivated. It could take up to 8 minutes for conditions to be met for the heat cycle to turn on after being activated by the override. The heat cycle stops if the engine is stopped. The heat cycle continues when the engine is started. Active regenerations will not occur until the heat cycle is complete.Select the following menus in order to activate the overrides:

"Diagnostics Tests"
"Override Parameters"
"Aftertreatment #1 Fuel Injector #1 Heater Override"

Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
1. Check for Diagnostic Codes
A. Establish communication between Cat® Electronic Technician (ET) and the ECM . Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electronic Service Tools", if necessary.
B. Download the "Warranty Report" from the engine ECM before performing any troubleshooting or clearing diagnostic trouble codes.
C. Determine if a diagnostic trouble code is present.
Diagnostic Code
Result: A E1070 (1) or 3556-7 diagnostic code is present.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
2. Check the Current Flow Through the Heater
A. Start the engine. Check the current flow through the heater. Refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "ARD Nozzle Heater (Current) - Test" for the correct procedure.
Amperage Between 7.0 A and 14 A for a 12 V System
or
Between 3.5 A and 7 A for a 24 V System
Result: The current flow is between 7.0 A and 14 A for a 12 V system. Or, the current flow is between 3.5 A and 7 A for a 24 V system.
The current flow is OK. Proceed to Test Step 3.
Result: The current flow is not between 7.0 A and 14 A for a 12 V system. Or, the current flow is not between 3.5 A and 7 A for a 24 V system.
There may be a problem with the current flow through the heater.
Repair: Check the current flow through the heater again. The current flow is not between 7.0 A and 14 A for a 12 V system. Or, the current flow is not between 3.5 A and 7 A for a 24 V system. Proceed to Troubleshooting, "ARD Nozzle Heater - Test" for additional information.

3. Replace the ARD Combustion Head
A. Replace the ARD combustion head. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS4824, "Replacement of the ARD Combustion Head on Caterpillar Products with Clean Emissions Modules".
B. Perform the "ARD Ignition Test" in Cat ET and verify that there are no fuel leaks. Refer to System Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "ARD Fuel System - Test".
The ARD Ignition Test cannot be performed if the DPF soot loading is above 80%. When the DPF soot loading is above 80%, the Manual DPF Regeneration must be performed using Cat ET.
C. Use a clamp-on ammeter to verify that the current flow through the new heating element is above the expected amount for the system voltage. Refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "ARD Nozzle Heater - Test" for additional information.
Test Passed
Result: The ARD combustion head was replaced.
Return the unit to service.
Test Step 1. Results:
The procedure corrected the issue. - STOP
The procedure did not correct the issue. - Repair: Contact your Cat dealer Technical Communicator (TC). For further assistance, your TC can confer with the Dealer Solutions Network (DSN).STOP
