A 370-8376 Capping Kit 1 Ensure that all adjustments and repairs that are carried out to the fuel system are performed by authorized personnel that have the correct training.Before beginning ANY work on the fuel system, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "General Hazard Information and High-Pressure Fuel Lines" for safety information.Refer to System Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Cleanliness of Fuel System Components" for detailed information on the standards of cleanliness that must be observed during ALL work on the fuel system.
The Electronic Control Module (ECM) can be a fuel cooled ECM or air cooled ECM. The removal procedure is similar for a fuel cooled ECM or air cooled ECM.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Turn the fuel supply to the OFF position.
If necessary, remove the secondary filter assembly. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Filter Base - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
If necessary, remove the primary fuel filter assembly. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Water Separator and Fuel Filter (Primary) - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
If necessary, remove the dipstick tube assembly. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pan - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
If necessary, remove the fuel priming pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Priming Pump - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
If necessary, remove the air compressor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Compressor - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.

Cut cable straps (1).
Remove plastic tube assembly (10) from the crankcase breather canister. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankcase Breather - Remove" for the correct procedure.
Disconnected harness assembly (12) from the fuel temperature sensor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Temperature Sensor- Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
Disconnected harness assembly (11) from the engine oil pressure sensor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pressure Sensor - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
Disconnect the harness assembly from crankshaft position sensor (8). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Position Sensor - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
Remove bolt (9) from bracket (7). Remove the bracket from the cylinder block.
Remove bolt (4) and spacer (3) from bracket (2).
Position bracket (5) and tube assembly (6) away from bracket (2).

Remove connection (15) from clamp (20) and position the connection away from Electronic Control Module (ECM) (18).
Remove bolt (14) from bracket (13).
Remove Allen head bolt (16) and bolt (19) from connection (17).
Disconnect harness assembly (21) from ECM (18). Position harness assembly (21) away from the ECM.
Repeat Step 18 through Step 20 to remove the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) harness assembly (not shown) from ECM (18).

Make temporary identification marks on the plastic tube assembly (29) and plastic tube assembly (34) for installation purposes.
Place a suitable container below the ECM (18) to catch any fuel that might be spilled.
Disconnect plastic tube assembly (29) and plastic tube assembly (34). Drain the fuel from ECM (18).
Use Tooling (A) to plug plastic tube assembly (29) and plastic tube assembly (34).
Use Tooling (A) to cap connection (30) and connection (33) on the ECM.
Remove plastic tube assembly (22), plastic tube assembly (23), and plastic tube assembly (27) from clips (28).
Disconnect plastic tube assembly (22), plastic tube assembly (23), and plastic tube assembly (27) from metal tube assembly (24). Use Tooling (A) to cap connections and plug the plastic tube assemblies.
Place a suitable container below connection (31) to catch any fuel that might be spilled. Disconnect the fuel return pipe from connection (31). Use Tooling (A) to cap connections and plug the tube assemblies.
Place a suitable container below the cylinder head to catch any fuel that might be spilled. Loosen nut (32) and remove bolt (25). Remove tube assembly (24) from the cylinder head.
Remove O-ring seal (26) (not shown) from tube assembly (24). Use Tooling (A) to plug the cylinder head and to cap the tube assembly.
Position tube assembly (22) away from the ECM.

Remove bolts (36) and washer (38) (not shown) from bracket (2) and from ECM (18). Ensure that earth strap (37) is not damaged as the bolts are removed. Support the weight of the ECM as the bolts are removed.Note: Note the orientation and position of the brackets
Remove bracket (2) and ECM (18) from the engine.Note: When removing the bolts from the ECM, ensure that the fuel injection line from the fuel injection pump to the fuel manifold is not damaged.

Fuel cooled ECM
If necessary, follow Step 35a through Step 35d to disassemble ECM (18).
Remove isolation mounts (40), isolation mounts (42), and limit sleeves (41).
If necessary, remove connection (30) and connection (33) from ECM (18).
If necessary, remove O-ring seal (43) (not shown) and O-ring seal (44) (not shown) from the connections.
Use Tooling (A) to plug ECM (18). Use Tooling (A) to cap the connection (30) and connection (33).
If necessary, remove spacers (39) from the cylinder block.
