In certain operating conditions the engine coolant may overheat in the products listed below. The cooling capacity will be increased by installing a new air inlet grill and larger coolant flow restrictors.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service. Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated December 6, 2000 when scheduling this service. You will not be charged for the service performed.

REWORK PROCEDURE
Raise the machine to it's full height and install the leg supports.
Drain the radiator into a suitable container. Radiator capacity is 21 gallons. Save as much of the coolant as possible, it can be reused.
Disconnect and remove the two top tank tube assemblies (1G8577 and 1G8578) from the radiator top tank and the thermostat housing outlets.
At the engine end of each of the two top tank tubes, drill out the orifice plates from 1 inch diameter to 1-3/8 inch diameter. Deburr the new orifices and clean the tube assemblies.
Reinstall the reworked tube assemblies in the reverse order from which they were removed.
At the bottom radiator tube(1G8618), re-align the tube with the water pump housing inlet on the engine. The gap between the tube and the housing should be between 1/4 to 1/2 inch. If the hose interfers with this alignment, trim 1-1/8 inch from it's length.
Check th gap between the bottom tube assembly and bottom radiator outlet. Adjust the gap to less than 1/2 inch. The hose does not need to be shortened.
As you retighten the clamps on the bottom tank tube, maintain a straight alignment of all connections.
Refill the radiator with coolant.
Remove the air inlet cover assembly(134-3215) and replace it with the new air inlet cover assembly(185-7210). It will be neccesary
