2. Loosen the hose clamp and disconnect radiator hose (1).3. Remove four bolts (2) and tube (4).4. Remove tube (3). 5. Remove two gaskets (7).6. Remove two bolts (5).7. Remove water temperature regulator housing (6). 8. Remove tube (8).9. Remove two gaskets (9).10. Remove two bolts (11), water connector (10) and the gasket. 11. Loosen the hose clamp and disconnect hose (12).12. Remove two bolts (13) and disconnect tube (14) from water temperature regulator housing (15).13. Remove tube (16). 14. Remove two gaskets (17).15. Remove three bolts (18).16. Remove water temperature regulator housing (15). 17. Remove two gaskets (19).18. Remove two bolts (21), water connector (20) and the gasket. The removal of the water temperature regulator from the regulator housing is the same for both housings (7) and (15). For simplicity, only the removal of one water temperature regulator from the regulator housing is shown.19. Remove gasket (22) from the water temperature regulator housing. 20. Remove water temperature regulator (23) from the water temperature regulator housing. 21. Remove O-ring seal (24) from water temperature regulator (23).Install Water Temperature Regulators
FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENT Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "TOOLS AND SHOP PRODUCT GUIDE, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates. The installation of the water temperature regulator is the same for both water temperature regulator housings. For simplicity, the installation of only one water temperature regulator is shown. Ensure all gasket material is removed and all mating surfaces are free of dirt, oil and grease. Replace any damaged or worn gaskets or O-ring seals with a new part if necessary. 1. Install O-ring seal (24) on water temperature regulator (23).
If the water temperature regulator is installed incorrectly, the engine will over heat.
2. Install water temperature regulator (23) in the water temperature regulator housing. 3. Install gasket (22) on the water temperature regulator housing.4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 for the other water temperature regulator housing. 5. Put the gasket and water connector (20) in position on the cylinder head.6. Install two bolts (21) fastening water connector (20) to the cylinder head.7. Put two gaskets (19) into position on water connector (20). 8. Put water temperature regulator housing (15) in position on the water connector.9. Install three bolts (18) fastening water temperature regulator housing (15) to the water connector.10. Put two gaskets (17) into position on water temperature regulator housing (15). 11. Put tube (14) into position on water temperature regulator housing (15) and install two bolts (13).12. Connect radiator hose (12) and tighten the hose clamp. 13. Put the gasket and water connector (10) in position on the cylinder head. Install two bolts (11) fastening water connector to the cylinder head.14. Install two gaskets (9) on the water connector.15. Connect tube (8) to the water connector. 16. Put water temperature regulator housing (7) in position on the water connector.17. Install two bolts (5) fastening water temperature regulator housing (6) to the water connector. 18. Install tube and two bolts (3).19. Put tube (4) and the gaskets in position and install four bolts (2).20. Connect radiator hose (1) and tighten the hose clamp.
