Thrust loading of the left RPTO (Rear Power Take Off) gear causes the RPTO gear to wear into the flywheel housing. The wear is caused by the swing pump stack and should not affect the RPTO gear. The wear will cause a worn area on the flywheel housing. The repair procedure consists of: inspecting the flywheel housing, machining the flywheel housing, installing dowels, installing a new bushing and installing a thrust washer.References

1 8M-9315 Bushing Inspection of Flywheel Housing
Prior to repairing the flywheel housing an inspection should be conducted to determine if the repair is necessary. If the engine is being disassembled for repairs, then a visual inspection is sufficient. If there are signs of adhesive wear on the flywheel housing where the left RPTO gear rests, then continue with the repair procedure. If the engine is suspected of wear but has not been disassembled yet, then a dial indicator inspection can be accomplished.Visual Inspection
During engine disassembly, visually inspect the RPTO gear mating surface on the flywheel housing. If any sign of adhesive wear is shown, then continue with the repair procedure. Refer to Illustration 3 for an example of adhesive wear. Refer to the Engine Disassembly and Assembly manual for guidance
