1. Position governor on the timing gear plate and install mounting bolts.2. Connect governor oil supply line.3. Connect governor linkage assembly.Disassemble Governor
preparatory step: a) remove governor1. Remove governor idle cover. 2. Remove collar (6). Remove spring (3) and small collar from bolt (5).3. Remove governor housing retaining bolts (1), spacers (2), and bracket (4). 4. Separate the governor housing (14) from adapter housing (8). Remove large spring (12) and seat assembly (13) from the guide in governor housing. Remove washer-type spring (10) from bolt (11).5. Remove weight assembly. Remove the governor drive gear (9) and drive shaft (7) from the adapter housing. 6. Remove the seat retaining ring (15) and pin (16). 7. Remove the seat (17), bolt (18), washers (19) and spring (20).8. Remove the sleeve and bearing assembly from the cylinder and weight assemblies. 9. Remove the retaining ring (23) from sleeve (21). Remove the bearing (22) and races (24) from sleeve (21). 10. Remove the valve (29) from piston (28).11. Remove the cylindr-to-weight assembly retaining ring (26). Remove the weight assembly (25).12. Remove the piston (28) and sleeve (27) from the cylinder. Remove the O-ring seal from sleeve (27). 13. Remove the stop bar retaining bolts and lock, stop bar, retainer, and spacer. Remove high idle adjustment screw (30). Remove speed limiter plug (32), gasket (31), spring (34), and plunger (33) from the housing.14. Remove the governor housing lever assembly-to-shaft retaining bolt and lock. Remove the shaft and lever assembly from the governor housing. Remove the two bearings, the seal and the plug from the governor housing. 15. Using tool setup (A), remove the drive shaft bearing from the adapter housing.16. Remove the adapter housing cover (37).17. Remove the control shaft lever retaining bolt and lock. Remove the two retaining rings from the control shaft. Rap lever lightly on one side to remove it from the woodruff key. Remove the woodruff key from the shaft. Remove the control shaft (36), two washers, and lever. Remove the remaining shaft (35) from the adapter housing.18. Remove the seal, two bearings, and the plug from the adapter housing.Assemble Governor
1. Using tool setup (A), install two bearings in adapter housing. 2. Using tool setup (B), install seal in adapter housing with lip toward inside. Install plug in housing. 3. Install short shaft (3) in adapter housing. Position lever (1) in the detent in the short shaft. Position control shaft (2) halfway into adapter housing. Position one washer on control shaft and slide control shaft through lever. Install woodruff key in control shaft. Install remaining washer on control shaft.4. Align woodruff key with groove in lever and rap control shaft lightly until lever is installed over woodruff key. Install two retaining rings on control shaft with washer positioned between each retaining ring and adapter housing wall. Install control lever retaining bolt and lock. Bend the lock.5. Align oil hole in drive shaft bearing with oil hole in adapter housing. Using tool setup (C), install drive shaft bearing in adapter housing.6. Install adapter housing gasket, cover and mounting bolts. 7. Install O-ring seal (7) on sleeve (6). Apply SAE 30 engine oil to O-ring and mating surface.8. Install piston (5) and sleeve (6) in the cylinder (4). 9. Position weight assembly on cylinder (9), and install retaining ring. Install valve (11) in piston (8).10. Install bearing and races in sleeve. Install retaining ring. Install sleeve and bearing assembly (10) on valve (11). 11. Position seat (12), bolt (13), washers, and spring on valve. Install retaining pin (14) and ring (15). 12. Position drive shaft in adapter housing (16). Position drive gear (17) on drive shaft and install retaining bolt and washer.13. Position weight assembly (18) to housing, connect short shaft (19) to piston assembly (20) and install mounting bolts and lock. Bend the lock.14. Assemble governor housing as follows: Install spacer, retainer, and stop bar. Install high idle adjustment screw. Install speed limiter plunger, spring, gasket and speed limiter plug in governor housing. 15. Install two bearings, seal and plug in governor housing. Position lever assembly (22) inside governor housing and install shaft (21) through lever assembly. Install lever assembly to shaft retaining bolt (23) and lock. Bend the lock.16. Install seat assembly and large spring over the guide (24) in governor housing. Position washer-type spring over bolt with convex side toward flyweights. 17. Position governor housing (26) to adapter housing (25) and install mounting bolts, spacers and bracket.18. Position small collar and spring over bolt. Install large collar and setscrew.19. Position governor idle cover to governor housing and install mounting bolts.concluding step: a) install governor
