Information:

Prior to stopping an engine that is being operated at low loads, run the engine at low speed for 30 seconds before stopping. If the engine has been operating at high load, then it should be run at low speed for three to five minutes to reduce and stabilize internal engine coolant and oil temperatures before stopping. Avoiding hot engine shutdowns will maximize turbocharger shaft and bearing life. Make sure the Engine Stopping procedure is understood. Follow the engine stopping procedure outlined below to allow the engine to cool. Make sure the Engine Stopping procedure is understood. Refer to the Engine Control, Monitoring and Protection topic for information regarding GSC control panel. The engine may be shutdown in several ways. To manually stop the engine, refer to the following information and instructions. The engine is equipped with an Emergency Stop Push Button (ESPB) and an Engine Control Switch (ECS). The ECS has four positions:* OFF/RESET* AUTO* MAN. START* COOLDOWN STOPTo manually stop the engine the Engine Control Switch (ECS) may be turned to the COOLDOWN STOP, AUTOmatic or OFF/RESET positions.Emergency Stop Procedure
Emergency stop controls are for EMERGENCY use ONLY. DO NOT use Emergency Stop Pushbutton (ESPB) for normal stopping procedure. Do NOT start the engine until the problem necessitating the emergency stop has been located and corrected.
The Emergency Stop Pushbutton is located on the front of the control panel. The Emergency Stop Pushbutton will cause immediate shutoff of fuel and/or air. Emergency shutoff controls (including any auxiliary Emergency Stop inputs) should only be used when an emergency exists, and not used to routinely stop the engine. * Emergency stops may be made through the Emergency Stop Pushbutton (ESPB). If the need for emergency engine shutdown occurs, Push the EMERGENCY STOP Pushbutton located on the control panel. This will activate the air and/or fuel shutoffs.* Reset the EMERGENCY STOP Pushbutton (pull out and rotate the button in the direction indicated on the button). Some EMERGENCY STOP Pushbuttons can be pulled out to reset, not requiring any rotation. Manual Fuel Shutoff Lever
A manual shutdown shaft/lever is provided to override the governor control of the engine. This shutdown will only move the fuel control linkage to the fuel OFF position to starve the engine of fuel. The engine will coast to a stop. Be sure to secure any external system components that have been operating to support the engine operation.Manual Stop Procedure
Follow the engine stopping procedure outlined below, to allow the engine to cool. Make sure the Engine Stopping procedure is clearly understood.1. Open the main electrical circuit breaker to remove the load. Lower engine speed with the Manual Speed Potentiometer (MSP) on the control panel. 2. Check the crankcase oil level while the engine is idling. Maintain the oil level between the ADD and FULL marks on the ENGINE AT LOW IDLE WITH WARM OIL side of the dipstick. 3. Adjust all other control systems that must be regulated prior to engine shutoff (voltage regulator, idle/rated switch, etc.). Reduce engine speed to low idle for about 30 seconds. 4. The engine may be stopped by using one of the following engine controls. Engine Control Switch
* Turn the switch to COOLDOWN STOP or OFF/RESET position. In the COOLDOWN STOP position (9 o'clock), the fuel solenoid shuts the engine down, after a programmable cool down time period. In the OFF/RESET position (12 o'clock), the fault lights are reset and the engine shuts down immediately. The engine will run for a short time in the cool-down mode, if the cool-down feature is utilized. Otherwise, the engine will shutdown immediately and coast to a stop. Be sure to secure any external system components that have been operating to support the engine operation. If the ECS is in the AUTO position and the remote contact opens, the engine will run for a short time in the cool-down mode, if the cool-down feature is utilized. Otherwise, the engine will shutdown immediately.Cool Down Timers
If the ECS is in the AUTO position, and the engine is remotely turned off by the opening of the iniate contacts, and the cooldown time expires, then the CTR will be unlatched and the starting motors may be reengaged.
Cool down timers are also provided which will continue running the engine after the load is removed for up to thirty minutes. (The factory default setting is five minutes.) After the engine has cooled, the timer will activate the fuel shutoff to stop the engine.Engine Stopping Sequence
1. The GSC receives an engine stop signal. The possible engine stop signals are: a. ECS (Engine Control Switch) turned to COOLDOWN STOP by the operator.b. The remote initiate contacts (IC) open while the ECS is in the AUTO position.2. After receiving the stop signal, the GSC checks that no system faults are present.3. The GSC begins the cooldown time (factory default is five minutes).4. If programmed to do so, the GSC activates the spare output. This output can activate a slave relay during cooldown which in turn activates the optional circuit breaker and takes the generator off load.5. After the cooldown time reaches the setpoint, the GSC deactivates the run relay (RR) and the electronic governor (EG) relay is deactivated after the engine oil pressure decreases to less than the setpoint for low oil pressure shutdown at idle speed (P14). Also the GSC shuts off the fuel by deactivating the fuel control relay (FCR) for ETR systems.6. As soon as engine speed reaches 0 rpm, the GSC deactivates the crank terminate relay (CTR) and a restart is now allowed. If a start signal is received before 0 rpm is reached, the fuel is turned on and the engine is allowed to run. If it does not run, the starting motor relay (SMR) does not activate until the crank termination relay (CTR) is deactivated at 0 rpm.7. The GSC shows the status of the relays on the relay status indicators of the lower display. All relay indicators should be OFF. If desired, the engine can be shutdown immediately by turning the
