Check for Codes
Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
A. Turn the DC breaker, located on the power distribution box to ON.
B. Connect Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET) Service Tool to the service tool connector.
C. Look for active codes that are associated with the system for the event code.
Codes
Result: An associated code is active.
Repair: Troubleshoot any associated codes before continuing with this test.
Result: A 4335-17 or 4335-18 code is active or logged.
Proceed to Test Table 4.
Result: A 3490-7 code is active or logged.
Proceed to Test Table 10.
Table 4
Check for Air Leaks
Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
A. Turn the DC breaker, located on the power distribution box to OFF.
B. Inspect the air supply lines to the dosing cabinet and inside the dosing cabinet for leaks.
Leaks
Result: An air leak was found.
Repair: Repair the air leak.
Proceed to Test Table 7.
Result: An air leak was not found.
Proceed to Test Table 5.
Table 5
Check the Air Supply to the Dosing Cabinet
Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
A. Turn the DC breaker, located on the power distribution box to OFF.
B. Disconnect the air supply line to the dosing cabinet.
C. Install a pressure gauge on the air supply line to the dosing cabinet.
D. Monitor the air supply pressure from the air compressor.
E. Reconnect the air supply line to the dosing cabinet.
483 kPa to 1068 kPa (70 psi to 155 psi)
Result: The air supply pressure from the air compressor is 483 kPa to 1068 kPa (70 psi to 155 psi).
Proceed to Test Table 6.
Result: The air supply pressure from the air compressor is less than 483 kPa (70 psi). There is a problem with the air supply to the dosing cabinet.
Repair: For information on the air compressor, refer to the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) service information.
If the problem is not resolved, proceed to Test Table 6.
Table 6
Check the Aftertreatment #1 Supply Air Pressure Sensor
Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
A. Turn the DC breaker, located on the power distribution box to ON.
B. Connect Cat ET.
C. Use Cat ET to monitor the following pressures:
- "Aftertreatment #1 Supply Air Pressure"
- "Aftertreatment #1 DEF Dosing Pressure"
Sensor
Result: The pressure sensors are within 20 kPa (3 psi) of each other.
Proceed to Test Table 7.
Result: The pressure sensors are not within 20 kPa (3 psi) of each other.
Repair: Replace the "Aftertreatment #1 Supply Air Pressure" sensor.
If the problem is not resolved, proceed to Test Table 7.
Table 7
Check the Air Assist Valve
Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
A. Turn the DC breaker, located on the power distribution box, to ON.
B. Connect Cat ET.
C. Use Cat ET to perform the following override:
- Set the "Aftertreatment #1 SCR Dosing Air Assist Valve Command Override" to ON .
D. Use Cat ET to monitor the following pressure:
- "Aftertreatment #1 Supply Air Pressure"
414 kPa to 469 kPa (60 psi to 68 psi)
Result: The acceptable range of the air pressure is 414 kPa to 469 kPa (60 psi to 68 psi).
The system is working properly. Return to service.
Result: The air pressure is less than 414 kPa (60 psi).
Proceed to Test Table 8.
