Table 1
Diagnostic Codes Table
Description    Conditions which Generate this Code    System Response
267-2 Remote Shutdown Input erratic, intermittent, or incorrect     Both of the switch contacts of the ground level shutdown switch are in the same state.     The code is logged.
The ground level shutdown feature is disabled.
E265(3) User defined shutdown     The user shutdown switch has been activated.
Certain conditions must be met on some applications prior to the activation of the user defined shutdown switch. These conditions may include setting the parking brake and/or placing the transmission in neutral.     The code is logged.
The engine will be shutdown.    Note: For the E265(3) code, determine if the shutdown was intentional or accidental. If the shutdown was intentional, make sure that the reason for the shutdown has been corrected. Reset the control system. Resume normal operation. The ground level shutdown switch provides the ability to shut down the engine. The engine's Electronic Control Module (ECM) remains active. Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) can be used to communicate with the ECM. The ground level shutdown switch must be returned to the Run position and the engine rpm must be zero before the ECM will allow the engine to start. To shut down the engine, lift the red cover guard and toggle the ground level shutdown switch to the Shutdown position. The ECM reads the position of the ground level shutdown switch. If the engine is running, the ECM disables the fuel injection. The ECM will not allow the engine to start if the status for the ground level shutdown switch is "Remote Shutdown". Also, the keyswitch must be cycled before the ECM will allow the engine to start.

ECM (1) J1/P1 connectors (2) J2/P2 connectors
Thoroughly inspect the ECM connector J1/P1. Thoroughly inspect the connectors for the ground level shutdown switch. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for details.

P1 ECM connector (P1-2) Shutdown (NO) (P1-8) Shutdown (NC) (P1-29) Return
Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each of the wires in the ECM connector that are associated with the circuit.
Check the allen head screw from each ECM connector for the proper torque. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for details.
Check the harness and the wiring for abrasion and for pinch points.Expected Result:All connectors, pins, and sockets are completely coupled and/or inserted. The harness and wiring are free of corrosion, of abrasion, and of pinch points. Results:
OK - The harness and wiring are OK. Proceed to Test Step 2.
Not OK - There is a problem in the connectors and/or wiring.Repair: Repair the connectors or wiring and/or replace the connectors or wiring. Ensure that all of the seals are properly in place and ensure that the connectors are completely coupled.Verify that the repair eliminates the problem.STOPTest Step 2. Check the Status of the Ground Level Shutdown Switch on Cat ET
Connect Cat ET to the service tool connector.
Restore electrical power to the ECM.
Observe the status of the ground level shutdown switch on Cat ET.
Operate the ground level shutdown switch. Observe the status of the ground level shutdown switch on Cat ET.Expected Result:The status of the ground level shutdown switch on Cat
