Establish communication between the electronic service tool and the ECM. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electronic Service Tools", if necessary.
Record the ETI code.Results:
The ETI code was not a 2 or 3. - Proceed to Test Step 2.
The ETI code was a 2 or 3. - Proceed to Test Step 3.Test Step 2. Check for External LeaksCheck for external leaks. Inspect the fuel lines from the pump to the ARD fuel manifold. Check for pinched lines or leaking lines. Results:
A leak or pinched line was found. - Repair: Repair all damaged lines or leaking lines. Use the electronic service tool to perform the "ARD Ignition Test". If the "ARD ignition test" was successful, return to service. If the "ARD ignition test" was not successful, proceed to Test Step 3.
A leak or a pinched line was not found. - Proceed to Test Step 3.Test Step 3. Check the Low Pressure Fuel System
If the temperature is below 0 °C (32 °F), check for solidified fuel (wax).
Check for fuel supply lines that are restricted.
Check that the low-pressure fuel lines are correctly installed.
Replace the in-line fuel strainer that is installed upstream of the Electric Fuel Lift Pump (EFLP).
Check that the EFLP is operating. If the EFLP is suspect, refer to Troubleshooting, "Fuel Pump Relay Circuit - Test".
Check the diesel fuel for contamination. Refer to Systems Operation, Testing, and Adjusting, "Fuel Quality - Test".
Check for air in the fuel system. Refer to Systems Operation, Testing, and Adjusting, "Air in Fuel - Test".
Ensure that the fuel system has been primed. Refer to Systems Operation, Testing, and Adjusting, "Fuel System - Prime".
Replace the primary fuel filter. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System Primary Filter (Water Separator) Element - Replace".
Start the engine and attempt to perform a manual regeneration. Results:
A fault was identified and corrected in the low-pressure fuel system. - Make sure that all diagnostic trouble codes have been cleared.STOP
An E1052 code is still present. - Proceed to Test Step 4.Test Step 4. Check the ARD Fuel Pump
Turn the keyswitch to the "OFF" position.
Disconnect the connector for the ARD fuel pump.
Start the engine.
Use the "Aftertreatment Fuel Pump Override" in the electronic service tool to activate the ARD fuel pump.
Measure the voltage from terminal 1 to terminal 2 of the harness connector for the ARD fuel pump.
Stop the "Aftertreatment Fuel Pump Override" in the electronic service tool and then stop the engine.
If the measured voltage is not battery voltage, troubleshoot the ARD fuel pump wiring. Refer to Troubleshooting, "ARD Fuel Supply - Test".
If the measured voltage is battery voltage, continue with this procedure.
Disconnect the fuel outlet line (2) from the ARD fuel pump. Refer to Illustration 1.
Install the tools that are listed in Table 2 to the outlet port of the pump.
Connect the fuel outlet line to the swivel tee.
Start the engine.
Connect the electronic service tool. From the menu, select "Diagnostics" and then select "Diagnostic Test". From the diagnostic test menu, select "Override Parameters".
Select "Aftertreatment Fuel Pump Override" in order to activate the pump.
Record the pressure from the pressure gauge.
Deactivate the override.
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position. The pressure must be within specifications. The pump pressure must be 1900 120 kPa (275.5 17.4 psi). Results:
The pump is not operating. - Repair: Replace the ARD fuel pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Pump (ARD) - Remove and Install".STOP
The pump is not within specifications. - Repair: Replace the ARD fuel pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Pump (ARD) - Remove and Install".STOP
The pump is within specifications. - Proceed to test step 5.Test Step 5. Replace the ARD Fuel Manifold Filter
Replace the ARD fuel manifold filter (8). Refer to Illustration 2.
Clear all diagnostic codes.
The ignition system may cause an electrical shock hazard, which may cause personal injury or death. Avoid contacting the ignition system components and the ignition system wiring during operation.
Use the electronic service tool in order to perform the "ARD Ignition Test".Results:
The ARD ignition test was successful and no codes were logged. - Return the unit to service.STOP
The ARD ignition test was not successful and codes were logged. - Proceed to Test Step 6 .Test Step 6. Replace the ARD Pilot Fuel Control Valve
Replace the ARD pilot fuel control valve. Refer to Disassem
