( 1 ) Part of the 5P-7318 Wear Sleeve Distorter Group Start By:
Tilt the radiator guard forward. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Radiator Guard - Tilt" for the correct procedure.
Remove the crankshaft vibration damper and pulley. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Vibration Damper and Pulley - Remove" for the correct procedure.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Note: The engine support and the trunnion was removed for photographic reasons. The engine support and the trunnion does not need to be removed in order to do this procedure.
Use Tooling (A) in order to remove the crankshaft front seal (1) .Note: The crankshaft front seal and the wear sleeve is one component. The wear sleeve will not come off with the crankshaft front seal. The wear sleeve must be removed separately.

Note: The engine support and the trunnion was removed for photographic reasons.
Install Tooling (B) in position.
Install Tooling (C) between Tooling (B) and the wear sleeve. Turn Tooling (C), until the edge of the tooling makes a flat crease in the wear sleeve. Repeat this procedure until there are enough creases in the wear sleeve in order to allow the wear sleeve to be slipped off the end of the crankshaft. Remove the wear sleeve.Installation Procedure

D     6V-6142     Seal Installer     1    Note: The crankshaft front seal and the wear sleeve must be replaced at the same time. Once the crankshaft front seal and the wear sleeve are separated, these components can not be used again. Refer to Special Instruction, SMHS8508, "Special Handling Information and Installation Instructions for Crankshaft Seal Groups That Have Hydrodynamic Grooves In The Sealing Lip" before the seal is serviced.

Note: The engine support and the trunnion was removed for photographic reasons. The engine support and the trunnion does not need to be removed in order to do this procedure.Note: Do not use any type of lubricant during the installation of the crankshaft front seal.
Use 4C-9500 Quick Cure Primer to clean the outside diameter of the crankshaft and the inside diameter of the crankshaft front seal.
Apply 4C-9507 Retaining Compound to the outside diameter of the crankshaft. Apply 4C-9507 Retaining Compound to the bore of the inside diameter of the crankshaft front seal.
Fasten Tooling (A) to the crankshaft with Tooling (B) .
The front and rear seals and wear sleeves have different spiral grooves in the seal. Because of this type of design, the front seal group for an engine is different from the rear seal group. If a seal group is installed on the wrong end of the engine, oil can actually be taken out of the engine instead of moving oil back into the engine.

Place crankshaft front seal (1) in position on Tooling (A) .Note: Install the crankshaft front seal with the arrow that shows the direction of the crankshaft rotation toward the front of the engine.Note: Lubricate the face of Tooling (C) before installation.
Install Tooling (D) and Tooling (C) on Tooling (A) .
Tighten Tooling (C) until Tooling (D) contacts Tooling (A) .
Remove Tooling (C), (D), (B) and (A) from the crankshaft. Check the crankshaft front seal for the correct installation.End By:
Install the crankshaft vibration damper and pulley. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Vibration Damper and Pulley - Install" for the correct procedure.
Tilt the radiator guard back into the original position. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Radiator Guard - Tilt Back" for the correct procedure.
