In certain applications the 142-5867 Crankshaft Seal and the 142-5868 Crankshaft Seal can leak. In some cases, there have been reports of repeat leaks on the same engine.Solution

The 2W-1733 Crankshaft Seal Gp and the 2W-1734 Crankshaft Seal Gp are available for trial in applications that have experienced a history of leaks. This seal may be more durable in these types of applications.The 2W-1733 Crankshaft Seal Gp replaces the 142-5867 Crankshaft Seal and the 2W-1734 Crankshaft Seal Gp replaces the 142-5868 Crankshaft Seal.Table 1 contains the required tools for the 2W-1733 Crankshaft Seal Gp available on the sales models listed.

Measure seal installer (T1) for the critical axial gap shown in the above illustration as dimension (D1).Note: Checking the axial gap of the seal installer is required to ensure that the seal is installed correctly.Rear installation tooling depends on presence and part number of the rear crankshaft gear. Most 3406, 3408, 3412, 3456, C15, C16, C18, C30, and C32 (HEUI) engines are built without rear gear trains.The C27 (ACERT) and C32 (ACERT) engines are built with rear gear trains but have different rear crankshaft gears depending on application.To confirm the presence and the part number of the rear crankshaft gear, refer to Parts Identification , "“Gear Gp – Rear”" for the engine sales model.Table 2 contains the required tools for the 2W-1734 Crankshaft Seal Gp available on the sales models listed, that are not equipped with a rear gear train.
