At operating temperature, the engine cooling system is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap on the radiator is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with shin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact the skin. Be sure that the engine and components are cool enough to touch with your bare hand prior to performing any service work.
Drain the coolant from the cooling system. Drain the oil from the torque converter, retarder and transmission. 1. Raise the bowl and block each side as shown to level the power pack. 2. Attach lifting straps. Remove four bolts and washers (1) and retainers (2). Remove two bolts and washers (6), retainer (5) and pin (4) from hook (3), remove hook (3). The weight of hook (3) is 363 kg (600 lb) 3. Loosen nut and bolt (8), slide the clamp down and remove exhaust extension (7). Loosen nut and bolt (10) and remove screen assembly (9). Remove the four bolts and washers on each side of the two hood sections. 4. Install tool (A) and a lifting strap as shown. Remove front hood (12). The weight of hood (12) is 24 kg (52 lb) 5. Install tool (A) and lifting straps as shown and remove hood (13). The weight of hood (13) is 23 kg (51 lb) 6. Remove bolt and washer (18) and two brackets (14). Disconnect wires (15) and (16). Remove bolt and washer (17). Disconnect wire connector (20) at the bottom of control box (19). 7. Disconnect wire connectors (21) and (22). 8. Remove two bolts and washers (24) and differential fill tube (23). 9. Disconnect air lines (25) and (26). Turn the shut off valve to the "OFF" position and disconnect fuel line (27). Remove bolt and washer (28) and disconnect fuel line (29). Make sure the pressure in the air system is zero before any lines are disconnected. 10. Remove bolt, washer and bracket (32) and (33).11. Disconnect cable (31) at disconnect switch (30). Disconnect cable (34) from the starter. 12. Remove two bolts and washers (36) and move breather (35) for clearance. 13. Attach lifting device to the power pack as shown for removal.14. Disconnect line (37) (not shown) from the bottom of the flywheel housing for clearance. Secure the line out of the way. 15. Remove two nuts, washers and bolts (40) and block (41) for access to two nuts, washers and bolts (39).16. Remove two nuts, washers and bolts (39) at rear of rail (38) (each side). Remove the two nuts, washers and bolts on each side at the front of the rail. Remove the power pack from the scraper. The weight of the Power Pack is 13 230 kg (6000 lb). Install in the reverse order. When installing two nuts, washers and bolts (39) at each side of rail (38) tighten to the torque of 434 20 N m (321 15 lb ft).End By:a. install drive shaft
