(62) Reversing fan enable Test Step 1. Inspect the Electrical Connectors and the Wiring
Remove the electrical power from the ECM.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Thoroughly inspect the J1/P1 ECM connectors. Also, thoroughly inspect all of the other connectors for the circuit. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for details.
Check the allen head screw for each of the ECM connectors for the proper torque. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for the correct torque values.
Check the harness and the wiring for abrasion and for pinch points. Expected Result:All connectors, pins, and sockets are completely coupled and/or inserted. The harness and wiring are free of corrosion, of abrasion, and of pinch points. Results:
OK - The connectors and wiring appear to be OK. Proceed to Test Step 2.
Not OK - There is a problem in the connectors and/or wiring.Repair: Repair the connectors or wiring and/or replace the connectors or wiring. Ensure that all of the seals are properly in place and ensure that the connectors are completely coupled.Perform a "Wiggle Test" by using the electronic service tool in order to identify intermittent connections.Use the electronic service tool in order to clear all logged diagnostic codes and then verify that the repair eliminates the fault.STOPTest Step 2. Check the Voltage At the Relay
Disconnect the relay connector.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.
Restore the electrical power to the ECM.
Check the voltage at the relay harness for the following connector pins:
Pin 1
Pin 2
Pin 4
Remove the electrical power from the ECM. Expected Result:The voltage measurement was 24 3 Volts DC.Results:
OK - The voltage measurements were 24 3 Volts DC. Proceed to Test Step 5.
Not OK - The voltage measurement was not 24 3 Volts DC at pin 1 and/or pin 2.Repair: Repair the connectors or the harness and/or replace the connectors or the harness. Ensure that all of the seals are correctly in place and ensure that the connectors are completely coupled.Perform a "Wiggle Test" by using the electronic service tool in order to identify intermittent connections.Use the electronic service tool in order to clear all logged diagnostic codes and then verify that the repair eliminates the fault.STOP
Not OK - The voltage measurement was not 24 3 Volts DC at pin 4. Proceed to Test Step 3.Test Step 3. Check For Voltage At the Fan Reversing Solenoid
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the harness connectors for the fan reversing solenoid.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.
Restore the electrical power to the ECM.
Check for voltage at pin 2 of the harness connector for the fan reversing solenoid.
Remove the electrical power from the ECM.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position. Expected Result:There was 24 3 Volts DC at pin 2 of the harness connector for the fan reversing solenoid. Results:
OK - There was 24 3 Volts DC at pin 2 of the harness connector for the fan reversing solenoid. Leave the harness disconnected. Proceed to Test Step 4.
Not OK - There was not 24 3 Volts DC at pin 2 of the harness connector for the fan reversing solenoid.Repair: There is an open circuit in the harness for the fan reversing solenoid . Repair the harness and/or replace the harness.Use the electronic service tool in order to clear all logged diagnostic codes and then verify that the repair eliminates the fault.STOPTest Step 4. Check the Fan Reversing Solenoid
Check the fan reversing solenoid for continuity between pin 1 and pin 2 of the connector for the fan reversing solenoid. Expected Result:There is not an open in the fan reversing solenoid. Results:
OK - There is not an open in the fan reversing solenoid. Proceed to Test Step 5.
Not OK - There is an open in the fan reversing solenoid.Repair: Replace the fan reversing solenoid.Use the electronic service tool in order to clear all logged diagnostic codes and then verify that the repair eliminates the fault.STOPTest Step 5. Test the Relay in the De-energized State
Remove the electrical power from the ECM.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the relay from the circuit.
Measure continuity across the following pins of the relay:
Pin 1 to pin 3
Pin 5 to pin 2
Pin 1 to pin 4Expected Result:The following results were obtained:
Pin 1 to pin 3 indicated a short circuit.
Pin 5 to pin 2 indicated some measured resistance.
Pin 1 to pin 4 indicated an open circuit. Results:
OK - Each measurement was correct. Proceed to Test Step 6.
Not OK - A measurement was incorrect.Repair: Replace the relay and retest the circuit.STOPTest Step 6. Test the Relay in the Energized State
Verify the operation of the relay in the energized state.
Apply 24 Volts DC across the coil of the relay.
Measure the voltage at the following pins of the relay:
Pin 3
Pin 4Expected Result:The following results were obtained:
Pin 1 to pin 3 indicated an open circuit.
Pin 1 to pin 4 indicated a short circuit.Results:
OK - Each measurement was correct. Proceed to Test Step 7.
Not OK - A measurement was incorrect. Repair: Replace the relay and retest the circuit.Use the electronic service tool in order to clear all logged diagnostic codes and then verify that the repair eliminates the fault.STOPTest Step 7. Check the ECM
Remove the J1/P1 ECM connector.
Disconnect the harness connector for the fan reversing relay.
Check for continuity in the wire between pin 5 on the harness for the fan reversing relay and pin 62 of the J1/P1 ECM connector.
Check for continuity between pin 5 on the harness for the fan reversing relay and all of the other pins on the harness for the fan reversing relay.
Check for continuity between pin 62 of the J1/P1 ECM connector and all of other pins on the J1/P1 ECM connector. Expected Result:The resistance measurement did not indicate an open circuit or a short circuit. Results:
OK - The resistance measurement did not indicate an open circuit or a short circuit. The harness is OK.Repair: Perform the following procedure:
Make sure
