Information:

Throttle Position Sensor
The Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) eliminates the mechanical throttle and governor linkages (along with their inherent adjustments). The TPS utilizes operator lever movement and sends an electrical signal to the engine Electronic Control Module (ECM). The TPS signal, along with the speed/timing signal is processed by the ECM to control precise engine speed. The Throttle Position Sensor does not require separate circuit protection. It is protected by the ECM 15 amp circuit breaker. The sensor output is a constant frequency signal whose pulse width (duty cycle) varies with throttle position. The Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) signal is expressed as a percentage (percent duty cycle) as shown in the preceding chart.Transmission Oil Temperature Sensor
The ECM monitors Transmission Oil Temperature with the Transmission Oil Temperature Sensor. The sensor can measure temperatures up to 120°C (248°F). Torque specifications are 20 3 N m (15 2 lb ft). Transmission Oil Temperature is monitored and high Transmission Oil Temperature is detected with a programmable set point. The High Transmission oil Temperature set point can be programmed to any value from 50 to 120°C (122 to 248°F). If this parameter is programmed to 120°C (248°F), the Transmission Oil Temperature monitoring is disabled.Transmission Oil Pressure Sensor
The ECM monitors Transmission Oil Pressure with a sensor located on the high pressure side of the Transmission. The Transmission Oil Pressure Sensor can measure Transmission Oil Pressure from 0 kPa (0 psi) to 3100 kPa (442 psi). Torque specifications are 10 2 N m (7 1 lb ft). Transmission Oil Pressure is monitored and High Transmission Oil Pressure is detected with a programmable set point. The High Transmission Oil Pressure set point can be programmed to any value from 700 to 2963 kPa (100 to 400 psi). If the Marine Transmission Oil Pressure or Temperature parameters are programmed to NO, the monitoring and sensor diagnostics are disabled.Hourmeter
The ECM provides an hourmeter signal. When the ECM reads an engie rpm greater than 500 rpm, the ECM turns ON the hourmeter. This signal is actual engine running hours and is not an accurate measure of ECM hours.Tachometer
The ECM engine rpm signal is provided by the Engine Speed/Timing Sensor. The ECM uses this value to scale the engine speed into revolutions per minute for the tachometer. The selection of the pulses per revolution (ppr) for the tachometer is done through the Customer Programmable Parameter, Tachometer Calibration. Customer Installed Switches
Applied voltage to switches by the electronic control will normally not exceed 24 VDC. Contact plating should not corrode or oxidize. Gold plated contacts are recommended. Normal current draw through the switches by the control will not exceed 5.0 mA. Contact chatter and momentary opening or closing should not exceed 100 milliseconds in duration. ECM internal pull up voltages force the respective input to +Battery when a switch contact is opened or the harness has an open circuit. Closure of an OEM installed switch must short circuit the input to the -Battery common of the P1 ECM Connector. All switches are supplied by the OEM. If an undetermined problem is present, install an Electronic Service Tool and check the Electronic Service Tool Display Status screen indicating the switch status.Voltage thresholds measured at ECM:
Voltage In Low
Voltage In High
> 3.5 VDC - With any switch contacts open, pin-to-pin leakage paths in connectors, harnesses, and switches must not result in an effective resistance of less than 5k Ohms from the respective control input to the Minus Battery Bus Bar or (P1, pin-5). OEM installed switches must be connected to the -Battery Bus Bar.Maintenance Clear Switch
The Maintenance Clear Switch is required to reset the PM1 maintenance indicator diagnostic after engine maintenance has been performed.Remote Shutdown Switch
When the Remote Shutdown Switch is connected to -Battery (activated), the ECM disables the fuel injection signal. This action causes the engine to shut down while leaving the ECM powered and active.Trip Clear Switch
When the Trip Clear Switch is activated the ECM clears the trip data and starts a new trip. This clears both the trip totals (not lifetime) as well as the trip histograms.Slow Vessel Switch
When the Slow Vessel Switch is activated (switched to -Battery), the ECM will reduce the programmed LOW IDLE speed to 550 rpm. This feature allows better vessel maneuverability in docking and no-wake zones.Engine Synchronization Switch
The purpose of engine synchronization is to link multiple engine ECM's to a single vessel throttle. This feature adds operator convenience, vessel control, and is a standard practice in marine applications to provide for either throttle to be used in a backup situation. Engine synchronization can be transferred to either the PORT or STARBOARD throttle. The following code determines throttle synchronization. The synchronization function can only be activated and deactivated when both the PORT AND STARBOARD Desired Engine speeds are within 50 rpm of each other.Trolling Mode Switch
During the Trolling Mode operation, the full range travel of the throttle lever will cause the engine speed to change from low idle engine speed to the maximum programmed trolling speed. The Trolling Mode will only engage when the engine speed is within 30 rpm of Low Idle, it can also be activated when the engine is not running. The Trolling Mode Switch Input is connected to -Battery Bus Bar when the transmission is in Trolling Mode. The trolling valve activation MUST automatically connect the Trolling Mode Switch Input to the -Battery Bus Bar. Switch Connections
Warning/Alarm and Diagnostic Lamps
The electronic control system provides drivers capable of sinking or sourcing 300 mAmp, which can be used to drive a relay, audible or visual alarm to annunciate the various diagnostic conditions.Lamp Driver Specifications
Electrical characteristics of the ECM low side lamp drivers and high side lamp drivers used for the Diagnostic/Check Engine Lamp and Warning/Alarm Lamp outputs are maximum current of 0.30 amperes (300 mAmp). The design does not have diagnostic codes associated with either lamp circuit.
Figure 1.10 Low Side Driver (Sinking Driver)These circuits are low side drivers because the ECM provides a path to -Battery to activate the lamp or other devices
