Introduction
This Special Instruction provides information to install a new backing plate for the engine speed dial and start switch on the machines listed above.Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you have read the information and you understand the information.Safety Section

Accidental engine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the equipment.To avoid accidental engine starting, disconnect the battery cable from the negative (−) battery terminal. Completely tape all metal surfaces of the disconnected battery cable end in order to prevent contact with other metal surfaces which could activate the engine electrical system.Place a Do Not Operate tag at the Start/Stop switch location to inform personnel that the equipment is being worked on.
Do not operate or work on this machine unless you have read and understand the instructions and warnings in the Operation and Maintenance Manuals. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Contact your Cat dealer for replacement manuals. Proper care is your responsibility.

430-9528 Control Cover
The machines listed above equipped with the 430-9528 Control Cover may experience failure of the D-shaped detent for the engine speed rotary dial and/or the retaining tab for the key switch. A failure of the plastic console cover can cause the dial and/or key switch to become loose and rotate in the console.Installation Procedure

Remove the engine speed dial, the starter switch, and the console from the machine. Retain all parts and hardware for later use.

Back side console view
Place plate (2) on the back side of the console. Insert the starter switch through the washer and the console.Note: Orient the plate correctly so the half-moon notch in the plate is positioned over the rectangular opening in the console.

Key switch view
Apply film (1) as shown.
Align the key switch so that the switch is vertical and secure from the back side. The opening in the console may be deformed but the approximate location can still be determined from a tab on the back side of the console. Torque the nut onto the key switch to 9 N m (80 lb in).

Insert the engine speed dial switch through the plate and console aligning the flat side of the switch to the flat side of the console opening. The opening in the console may be deformed but the approximate location can still be determined from a tab on the back side of the console.
Install the lock washer and nut onto the engine speed dial. Secure the dial from the back side and torque the nut to 2 N m (18 lb in).

Align the set screw of the knob to the flat side of the speed dial. Tighten the set screw.
