start by:a) remove engine side platesb) remove muffler and exhaust elbow (earlier machine only)c) remove engine radiatord) remove drive shaft for pump drive (See VEHICLE SYSTEMS, DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY section)e) remove main drive shaft group (drive shaft only) (See POWER TRAIN, DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY section)f) remove firewallg) remove bottom guard (front)h) remove bottom guard (middle) 1. Put identification on hose assemblies (1), (2), (3) and (4) for correct installation.2. Disconnect hose assemblies (1), (2), (3) and (4) from the torque divider.
EARLIER MACHINE SHOWN3. Put identification on hose assemblies (5), (6), (7) and (8) for correct installation.
LATER MACHINE SHOWN4. Disconnect hose assembly (6) and wire (7) from the relief valve.5. Disconnect hose assembly (9) from the elbow.6. Disconnect hose assembly (5) from the torque divider.7. Disconnect hose assembly (8) from the block. Remove the clamp that holds the hose assembly in place. Make sure the valve on the fuel tank is in the "OFF" position. See the LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE GUIDE or REMOVE FUEL TANK.
EARLIER MACHINE SHOWN8. Put identification on hose assemblies (10), (11) and (12) for correct installation.9. Disconnect hose assemblies (10), (11) and (12) from the tube assemblies. Steps 10 and 11 are for earlier machines only.
EARLIER MACHINE ONLY10. Disconnect hose assembly (13) from the elbow (not shown).
EARLIER MACHINE ONLY11. Disconnect tube assembly (14) from each of the turbocharger elbows.12. Put identification on the wires that are connected to the starting motors.
EARLIER MACHINE SHOWN13. Disconnect the wires from terminals (15) and (16) on starting motor (17).14. Disconnect the wires from the terminals on starting motor (18).

EARLIER MACHINE SHOWN17. Disconnect hose (23) from elbow (22).18. Remove elbow (22) and pipe (21) as a unit from the engine. 19. Put identification on wires (24) for correct installation.20. Disconnect wires (24) from the solenoid.21. Disconnect wires (25) and (26) from the terminal for the glow plugs.

LATER MACHINE SHOWN23. Disconnect the wires from relays (27), (28) and (29).24. Disconnect hose (30) from the valve.

EARLIER MACHINE SHOWN27. Remove four bolts (34) that hold support assembly (33) in position on the frame.
EARLIER MACHINE SHOWN28. Remove caps (35) from the supports for the rear of the engine.
EARLIER MACHINE SHOWN29. Install tooling (A) and a hoist on the engine.
Make sure all of the hose assemblies, wires, tube assemblies and governor linkage are clear of the engine.
During the removal of the engine and torque divider, make sure support assembly (33) does not make contact with the fan assembly. Make sure oil pan (37) does not make contact with the frame.
EARLIER MACHINE SHOWNFor earlier machines make sure turbocharger elbows (36) do not make contact with the governor linkage and the platform. Make sure yoke (38) does not make contact with the platform.30. Use tooling (A) and a hoist to remove the engine and torque divider from the machine. Weight is approximately 10,200 lb. (4590 kg).
EARLIER MACHINE SHOWN If the engine and torque divider are to be installed on tool (B) (not shown), remove oil pan (37) and support assembly (33). See REMOVE OIL PAN. Use a hoist to remove the support assembly from the trunnion. Weight is 190 lb. (86 kg).See REMOVE TORQUE DIVIDER in POWER TRAIN DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY section to remove the torque divider from the engine.Install Engine And Torque Divider
If the engine and torque divider was installed on tool (A) (Not shown), see INSTALL TORQUE DIVIDER in POWER TRAIN DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY section to install the torque divider on the engine.Install the oil pan on the engine. See INSTALL OIL PAN.Use a hoist to install support assembly (3) on the trunnion.
EARLIER MACHINE SHOWN1. Use a hoist and tooling (B) to put the engine and torque divider in position. Be very careful not to cause damage to the components of the machine during installation of the engine and torque divider.
EARLIER MACHINE SHOWN2. Install caps (1) on the supports for the rear of the engine. 3. Use four spacers and bolts (2) to install support assembly (3) on the frame.
EARLIER MACHINE SHOWN4. Connect the wires to the terminals on relays (4), (5) and (6).
LATER MACHINE SHOWN5. Connect hose assembly (7) to the valve.
EARLIER MACHINE SHOWN6. Make sure the gaskets are in position on the water pump and the housing. Install pipe (9) and elbow (10) as a unit. Connect hose (12) to the elbow on elbow (10).7. Connect the wire for flow switch (11).
LATER MACHINE SHOWN8. Connect temperature sensing unit and wire to housing (8) (earlier machines). Connect the wires to the sensing unit in housing (8) (later machines). 9. Connect wires (13) to the solenoid.10. Connect wires (14) and (15) to the terminals for the glow plugs.
EARLIER MACHINE SHOWN11. Connect the wires to terminals (16) and (17) on each of the starting motors. Step 12 is for earlier machines only.
