An accumulation of any flammable substance may ignite and cause personal injury. Wipe away any spilled oil or other flammable substance before cutting with an air carbon arc torch or similiar tool.
The following welding procedures given are with low hydrogen AWS Specification E7018 Electrodes. All electrodes must be completely dry. The surfaces must be clean. Remove all foreign materials before welding. Do not weld in areas where there is a strong movement of air or in temperatures of less than 16° (60°F).

When a hoist is used to lift any part or assembly, stand clear of the area. Be sure the hoist has the correct capacity to lift a heavy assembly. Approximate weights of the components and assemblies are shown in the following chart.

The 6T6941 R.H. and 6T6943 L.H. Cover Assemblies can be modified, or they can be replaced with the new 6Y2413 and 6Y2416 Cover Assemblies.Refer to Modifications to Standard Removal Parts.If the existing 6T6941 and 6T6943 Cover Assemblies are modified it will be necessary to order two 3T9476 Hinges and additional parts from the Parts Needed Chart. The existing 9W8819 R.H. and 9W8817 L.H. Plate Assemblies (hinged) can be modified and installed, or they can be replaced with new 6Y2387 and 6Y2385 Plate Assemblies.If the original plate assemblies are to be replaced, order the new replacement parts, four 5P7925 Screws and the other necessary parts from the Parts Needed Chart.If the original plate assemblies are to be modified, order four 5P7925 Screws, four 5M9498 Guides (for fabricated parts) and the other necessary parts from the Parts Needed Chart. 1. Remove 6T6941 R.H. and 6T6943 L.H. Cover Assemblies (1). Save the 0L1351 Bolts, 5M2894 Washers, 7S2043 Knob Assembly, 9S8230 Plate Assembly and 4H1641 Spring Pin for later use.2. Remove 6Y2394 R.H. and 6Y2392 L.H. Plate Assemblies (2). Save the 0L1351 Bolts and 5P1075 Washers for later use. 6Y2394 and 6Y2392 Plate Assemblies (2) are used on Product Identification Number 74Z500-Up. These assemblies are part of 3T2014 Guard and Hood Group.Modification To Standard Removal Parts
For machines with Product Identification Numbers 74Z1-499 perform the procedure as given in Steps 1 through 12 which follow.For machines with Product Identification Numbers 74Z500-Up perform ALL the steps, 1 through 18, which follow. The modification procedure given below is for the 6T6941 Cover Assembly, R.H. Use the same procedure to modify the 6T6943 Cover Assembly for the left side of the machine.1. Remove both cover assemblies from the machine. Remove the handles from each cover assembly and put them aside for later use. 2. Using the dimensions given above, make modifications to both cover assemblies.3. Drill two 21.5 mm (.84") Ø holes at locations (A). The horizontal center line must extend completely across the covers. This mark will be used later to locate a cut that must be made.4. Remove the material between the two holes, as shown, to make a slot. 5. Put the 3T9476 Hinge (1) in position on the inside of the cover as shown and tack weld it in place.6. Make a series of 3 mm (.12") fillet welds, 50 mm (1.9") long. Make these welds on both sides of the hinge. The welds must not be connected. There must be 200 mm (7.9") between adjacent weld centers.7. Drill a 10.5 mm (.41") Ø hole at location (B).
Dimensions for Angeles.8. Use two pieces of 3 mm (.12") thick mild steel and the dimensions given above to make two angles (2).9. Make a 3 mm (.12") fillet weld on the inside edge of each angle (2) to fasten it in position. (Refer to the illustration above step 5 to properly position the angles.)10. Make a 3 mm (.12") wide cut along the line at each end of the cover. The cut must extend into the slot. (Refer to the NOTE at step 3.)11. Install the handles in the 10.5 mm (.41") Ø holes on each cover assembly.12. Install both cover assemblies. This completes the modification procedure for machines 74Z1-499. For machines 74Z500-Up, complete the modification by performing all the remaining steps.
Fabricated Plate Dimensions13. Use 6 mm (.24") thick mild steel to make two plates according to dimensions given above. All sharp edges are to be made round.14. Locate and drill two 18.5 mm (.73") Ø holes in each plate.
Locating Dimensions for Fabricated Plates.15. Use the dimension shown above to weld the fabricated plates onto the 6Y2392 and 6Y2394 Plate Assemblies. Make a series of 5 mm (.2") fillet welds at edge (D).Each weld should be 20 mm (.8") long. There should be 60 mm (2.4") between adjacent weld centers.16. Use a 3 mm (.2") fillet weld at edge (E) to finish welding the fabricated plate onto the plate assemblies.17. Tack weld four 1F0748 Weld Nuts to the bottom of the drilled holes in the fabricated plates.18. Proceed to Step 2 in the topic entitled Installation Procedure for Machines 74Z500-Up and perform Steps 2 through 11.Installation Procedure for Machines 74Z1-342
6T1959 R.H. And 6T1966 L.H. Plate Assemblies (bolt-on).1. Remove the 6T1966 L.H. and 6T1959 R.H. Plate Assemblies (bolt-on). Remove the step plate and four gussets on the 6T1966 Plate Assembly.
