01 Changed the 4 319-3527 Hard Washer to 2 039-8557 and 2 574-4265 Hard Washer.
Added new graphic and risk assessment chart. The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.Problem
The block pan rail of certain C175 engines can experience fretting which could lead to loss of bolt load and pump failure.Solution
Do not operate or work on this product unless you have read and understood the instruction and warnings in the relevant Operation and Maintenance Manuals and relevant service literature. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Proper care is your responsibility.
Illustration 1 g06436054Risk of scavenge pump failure must be evaluated on a per engine basis. Two significant factors affecting the bolted joint capability are cylinder block pan rail condition and scavenge pump configuration.
Green - Full Life Solution. No action required.
Yellow - Recommend checking bolt torque by no later than midlife or 8,000 hours, whichever occurs first.
Orange - Recommend checking bolt torque by no later than 4,000 hours.
Red - Recommend not to exceed 2,000 hours between inspection intervals.Note: Condition should be reevaluated based on any new information learned at each bolt replacement interval. It is not recommended to remove the scavenge pump during replacement intervals. Bolts should be removed and replaced one at a time. If the Loctite® had been applied to bolts at previous service interval, it is recommended to clean the threads in the block to remove old Loctite® prior to new bolt installation. Caterpillar recommends minimizing pump replacements on a given block unless pump replacement is necessary due to failure. Once wear is present on the block pan rail, changing the pump comes with some level of risk due to pump foot variability as the pump and block become a wear pair.If the pan rail has no fretting ("new" or "as new" condition), a scavenge pump installed with friction shims at the mounting feet of the scavenge pump should be used.Table 2 contains the required parts to install a scavenge pump equipped with friction shims at the mounting feet.

Loctite® 243 Blue Threadlocker 1 Note: Loctite® Red (HIgh Strength) Threadlocker should NOT be used as it is proven to negatively affect the bolted joint.Loctite® 243 Blue Threadlockerhttps://www.henkel-adhesives.com/us/en/product/threadlockers/loctite_243.html

Starting with upper left-hand bolt (1), remove and discard the bolt.Starting with bolt (1), remove and discard the bolt.
Ensure that the threads in the block are clean and free of oil, debris, or adhesives prior to installing the new fastener.Note: Itis recommended to run a thread tap by hand to clear the threads of debris.
To condition the threads on the new bolt, torque the new bolt to 100 N m (74 lb ft), and then remove the new bolt.

(T1) Loctite® 243 Blue Threadlocker
Apply tooling (T1) along the thread engagement length of 20 mm (0.8 inch) on the new bolt, as shown in the above illustration.Note: Prevent the Loctite® 243 Blue Threadlocker from contacting the bolt underhead, as this can cause increased assembly friction resulting in reduced clamp load of the bolt.
Torque the new bolt to 100 N m (74 lb ft).Note: Torque process should be completed within 10 minutes of applying tooling (T1) and the temperature must be above 15° C (59° F).
Return to Step 1 and repeat this procedure for the remaining bolts called out in Illustration 2.Note: Remove one bolt at a time.
Proceed to the next step after each bolt has been replaced.
