When reporting the repair, use "PS0428" as Part Number, "7755" as Group Number, and "96" as Description Code. Problem
Some crankshafts used in D10 Tractors, D348 Engines, 776 Tractors, 777 Trucks, and 992 Loaders may have notches or grooves in the radius of the journal fillets or grinder burns on the sidewalls of the counterweights. Ifone of these conditions exist, the crankshaft may crack or break from fatigue.

***** Parts Stock ***** Inspect all 1W7578, 0R1233, 0R1230, and 0R2530 Crankshafts in parts stock for notches or grooves in the radius of the journal fillets or grinder burns on the sidewalls of the counterweights. If one of these conditions exist, remove the crankshaft from parts stock. ***** Affected Product ***** If a 1W7578, 0R1233, 0R1230, or 0R2530 Crankshaft fails in the Affected Product, and it can be determined that the failure was due to notches or grooves in the radius of the journal fillets or grinder burns on the sidewalls of the counterweights, replace the crankshaft and resultant damaged parts. Record the part number of the failed crankshaft, forged heat code, and stamped sequence number. Report these numbers in the warranty claim story. Record these same numbers from the replacement crankshaft installed in the engine and keep them in your history file along with a photo showing the location of the failure.

Parts Disposition
All parts removed (with the exception of cores used for Caterpillar Remanufactured parts) should be rendered useless and scrapped immediately upon completion of the repair.
